Q: Do you do anything special for Chinese Valentine's Day?

Having one V-Day on Feb 14 is annoying enough, but now 2? Do you actually do anything for it? Or is your Chinese girl/beau fine with it just being any other day?

If she didn't tell you beforehand, you could just pretend you don't know it exist.

the wholesale florist shop here has bundles of 20 roses for 100 rmb

also individual roses are 3 a piece. last year i bought single roses for every female at the training school, the wife got 20 and was still mad about giving flowers at school. i just smiled and said i dont have 5000 years of culture to know it was a bad idea and im struggling to become more enlightened like her, good thing they dont understand sarcasm and humor very well.
what a sad story, you see your wife once a year and have to walk over magpie birds to get there, why set up a holiday based on a tragedy, a man who can only see you once a year is not romantic, if he thinks one day a year is enough, he is a fool, even if he does go heaven.

I was hoping to avoid it, but this morning my gf was sure to remind me what today is.  I doubt we'll do too much...maybe a nice later-than-normal dinner to try and avoid the crowds.

maggiegirly:

Hehehe,Your gf's same as me.lol

a love letter or just say Happy Valentine's day to me would be enough on Chinese Valentine's day,Not a big deal.

as Western Valentine's day is more important to me.

It's afternoon here in Australia,I have not reminded my husband yet,

Hope he will say Happy Valentine's Day to me once he gets home from work,

we will see LOL

I think not. V-day is in my mind just a very successful marketing strategy from florists and chocolate dealers.  Chinese V-day traditions, lets look at them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qixi_Festival#Traditions ....threading needles in low light conditions....and stuff. Nothing about flowers. Go thread needles and make you woman show her domestic skills if you want to be a romantic.

I tell my wife I love her every day.

Nessquick:

Yeah, Thanks a lot. there is nothing about wife and husband shall celebrate Only newly-weds as a last time. Bingo, no roses for 20kuai/pc here in shanghai anymore , yeah !

Definitely 1 day is enough and I already dropped 400 kuai on a bouquet of flowers on the REAL Valentine's Day.  Thank god I am out of town now...but she tells me she doesn't care....just another day.

diverdude1:

same here... my babe let it slide...  I knew about it,,,  but I just don't believe in encouraging it.  Seems a false holiday to me.  Valentine was an Italian dude.

I look in the mirror, and think how lucky I am to have me.

Valentines day has got to be one of the most stupid holidays.  Do you really need someone to tell you when to show love to your wife or gf?  And is it really romantic when society is pressuring you to buy her flowers and chocolates?  Sheep, sheep, sheep.

I didn't even know until 4:30pm and my wife gets off at 5:30pm, and we're having a Typhoon down in Shenzhen, so flowers were sold out on line and none outside due to the storm, so I bought my wife a 500 RMB dress. That saved the day, gosh these lunar calendars really fool us a lot. I never know when something is.

Well, the first part of our CVD was a bust.  Took her to a nice Japanese restaurant which we usually frequent.  But this time I was gonna splurge on the teppenyaki (let the dude cook on the grill in front of us).  I've done this before, usually runs 300 rmb for 2, and it's about all we can eat.  The place was slammed, even though we showed up super late.  Took forever to get seated and waited on.  Put in our order, and then the girl comes back and says sorry, there's a minimum order of 500 rmb.  I asked her why, and of course because of this stupid holiday.  I asked her if she wanted us to spend 300+ rmb, or would they rather lose one of their best customers.   Mei ban fa....really?

So we went and ate baozi for 20 rmb instead (godawful throng of people at every other semi-nice place to eat).  Luckily my girl was still a happy camper, especially later when we got  back to the crib smileylaugh

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
