Q: Do you ever gets bouts of EXTREME boredom in China?

How do you deal with it if you do?

Sometimes I think I am going to go insane.  Sometimes I just go to the disco and drink even though I HATE the music, just so I can do something.

Even with the old gf, she always just wanted to stay at home and watch tv or play QQ games every night.

first ask your self what do you do at home country that you enjoyed.
A sport or jamming with musso's
then try and find some like minded people to hang with.
I remember you talking about rock bands the other day maybe you can get together with some of them.

There was a point in my life I feel like suicidal because of boredom. But come to thnk of it, there are a lot of way to kill time. Watching movie, learn mandarin, see friends, or inviting them to stayover.

I like company and i don't see myself being alone.
This is China life so as much as possible I am making every moment  worthwhile.

Yes, I get extremely bored sometimes, and have been especially lonely over Spring Festival. Somehow I manage to while away the time online, but about once a week I go out and walk around the city. Maybe it's not very exiciting, but it's fresh air and there's always something to look at. Usually I walk to the Walmart. Man, my life is boring, no wonder I'm bored.

WOW! glad to know I'm not the only one bored out of my mind during Chinese New Year.  Well, I did spend some money on some iphone/ipad games that takes some time to complete.  I suppose having access to Netflix or some other net movie sites via VPN doesn't hurt either.  Some times it's quite a kick too going to a shopping mall and start random conversations while pretending to be crazy.  Hey, you're in China, no one knows you here. Have a life, or two, OR THREE!

When even the computer can't keep me entertained, I wait for night time, then go on an "exploration adventure". There's almost no-one and the darkness helps me feel at ease, I can take my time, discover nice or useful places, and very often see all sorts of.. weird events.

Yes, every time I was asked to judge an English competition. They are made of o dialogues which are "scene taken from X" where "x" can be a book or a movie, or monkey king, etc.  This bores me to tears so I do my best to b e "too busy" to attend. (Sure would be nice to see a dialogue with a beggining, a middle and an end).  The other tiem I am bored to the point of wishing for hallucinogens is when it is anything involving children. Kids bore me to the point of catatonia...

I think everyone has bouts of extreme bordom every now and then.  I am actually having one right now since my VPN has gone down and the one I 'purchased' from this site hasn't arrived yet.  (Granted, I only redeemed the points a few hours ago, but still....)

And no VPN means I can't play Star Wars online.  This is bad.  The galaxy needs me.  They tell me this all the time in the game.  "We are all counting on you..."

I need a beer.

Beer and this website have been a cure for boredom.  I wish there were more racketball players.  Spring Festival is absolutely boring, even to most young Chinese citizens, who feel required rather than want to return home.  Let's start playing "Gotcha."

I find travelling helps with boredom as an expat.

Staying indoors makes me feel bored. I even just go swimming or sit in starbucks and use their free vpn.

I try and force myself to learn Chinese, understand the people. Thank god I'm not living in Europe's recession...sigh!!

Whether in China or not, everybody has days of extreme boredom (or just lethargia). I don't really mind, because it makes one appreciate the good days a lot more.

I like to go to parks or tourist attractions and take photos. Or just walk around new streets taking photos. After nine years coming and going to and from China, I still enjoy this. There are no end of new sights, or new bizarre antics by the locals, to see and witness.

But some days, it is just too hard to get motivated.

Here is the solution but not easy. Learn more of the language so that you can participate in sharing what you have to say. Being in China for over 6 years I truly have been through it all. The premise is that if you cannot communicate, then you will be lonely. Like I said, learning the language is not easy but feasible.
