Yeah I know this is basically a rehash of a question that appeared not long ago about staring but we're in China so it's plagiarism all the way. I can imagine it can get pretty tiresome if you're out and about and having to express your disapproval of such behaviour due to its sheer ubiquity, though I often find myself these days directing an evil stare at these offenders. Is it our place in China to do so though? Should we stand up for respect of the community or is it just arrogance to go around scolding at everyone who throws a plastic bag on the floor?

If I hear someone preparing to spit, you know the noise I mean, I stare at them and they usually wait until I've gone to spit it out. They just don't give a shit.
I was on the subway once and this guy spat on the floor. This old Chinese guy opposite shouted at him. The guy was like "Oh I'm ill" and what not. Chinese just don't feel embarrassed about looking like a animal. It's the same when they get told off by the police. Watch carefully the next time a cop shouts at someone; they just laugh, they have no shame.

most animals are smart enough to know that spitting is disgusting.
Last summer I was riding the bus, when this Chinese girl threw her garbage (a bag of chips or a banana peel or something) out the window. No one really paid attention to it, except for this one elderly Chinese woman who went MENTAL on her. For the next 30 minutes (no lie) everyone on the bus was dead silent as this women screamed at the girl about how ignorant and selfish she was and how she was destroying China's environment.
It was insanely awkward to witness, but I was really proud of the woman for saying something. I personally would never say something to a Chinese person about littering. That's how fights start.

Damn, I would have loved to see the grandma going off. More Chinese NEED to do that..not screaming at people but speaking up regarding littering, poor manners, etc!!!! Drop the cowardice about speaking up!! The Chinese government and schools can also play a part in education.
I'm not the police and I don't go around having a go at people. It's not my thing if you know what I mean. I would rather go somewhere else than go in the direction of some litterer or spitter and waste my breath on them when they can't even understand the words that are coming out of my mouth!
Whenever I see people letting their kids piss on the street in Guangzhou I call them 'laktat gwai', which has a meaning akin to 'slob'.
Only if they do so in my school or classroom....
Outside of my school if someone jumps the queue, I go "Queue Hulk" on em!
At a red crossing light a mid-age woman after having her lunch throw a bag and things on the ground next to a garbage bin so I went over picked it up and put in the garbage, she just stared at me and others said things I didn't understand but I'm sure they where applauding me or not.
