I have met many westerners, who do not like pork. How about you westerners?
I don't like most meat in China. It's often tough. Our meat is aged and has more flavour and is more tender. We are bigger eaters, nothing like a nice thick BBQ steak or roast.
I can eat pork sometimes and other times I don't like it, There are exception, spareribs. I like BBQ pork, but there is such a fine line between being well done and over done, then the meat is dry.
Any bacon or ham I've had in China doesn't taste right to me.
Bacon, I love bacon. That's where the love of pig meat stops with me.
But I must agree with above, the bacon here certainly isn't the same as what I am used to from back home.
Pork being the meat of choice took some getting use to I must say.
Well done on combining a whole bunch of nations and cultures with one word by the way. Bravo!
MissA:
Hey, she's improving... a few days ago we were all 'foreigners'. The phrase 'westerners' seems downright specific by contrast!
bacon and ham pork chops with gravey now i want to go home and eat some real food
Pork and hot green peppers is one of my favorite Hunan dishes!! Yum, yum! As a matter of fact, I had some today for lunch!
Victoria1987:
I love pork and and chilly peppers also, even I am from east of China.
BBQ'd pulled pork sandwiches are my personal favorite. But, I have only found a couple of places that make passable ones in China.
When I was back in the US, I would make my own pulled pork and BBQ sauce. It took about 12 hours to make, but man was it good. The key is a good rub, the right wood for smoking and a BBQ sauce that compliments the rub. Damn, I miss my BBQ.
I haven't eaten pork or beef since I was a teenager.
Unlike most people who don't eat pork (Muslim/Jewish diet etc.) I stopped for ideological reasons and even though I don't think the same way anymore it makes me sick now if I eat some by accident.
Pork is part of a lot of dishes in my country, as is chicken and cow. Yes we do have a lot of usage for the pork. There around 90% of the all pork is used to produce food, from blood sausages, to the normal meat. But i have to say i can leave without it. But i like to have variety in my meals so, as we usually say, "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"
if you are referring to your paki bf, he is not a westerner. people are different and have varied eating habits. our govts don't micro manage our habits. some people will eat pork some people will not. it could be becoz of personal tastes or religious rules.
In our home countries we have variety,so many will not eat pork or any one thing for lunch dinner every day.
why is it so difficult for chinese to understand the concept of "individual taste"
Victoria1987:
I am not saying the mypakistan ex boyfriend,he is a muslin, surly he wont eatpork cause of his religon. I am saying many westerners I met doesn'tt like pork,I understand the individual habits, but I guess there still some thing else out there, for example ,the culture or other tiny religious thing.s
crimochina:
that is the thing, each individual is their own person. people do not try to be the same, as in china. i have met jews or muslims that ate pork. even if they are with a particular culture or religion each person chooses they will follow or not follow.
i'll give you an example. in china if you do anything different from what the norm is you immediately become an outcast. that does not exist in other countries (unless you are talking about religious zealots).
Love a lot of the pork dishes in China
however I can't resist lamb Kebab when in China because it is too expensive at home
Roast pork sandwich witih apple sauce!!!!
Pig on the Spit!
I did have a liking for WuHuaRou.. but I've gotten over it now - too fatty!
I've been loving the pork for years now... so I fit right at home here
I wish the locals would learn to make a good kebab (as Phil said) - pita bread (or good substitute), lamb/beef/pork/chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic sauce!
Pork belly is great. Of course eating too much is not good for you because of the thick layer of fat but the slow cooked BBQ style of sweet pork belly is sensational. I also very much enjoy some of the pork intestine dishes, stir fired with chili especially Sichuan style and pork trotters or even better hocks. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
my parents are muslims but am not and i still eat prok and i pretty much llike my regular bacon and eggs in the morning
Victoria1987:
What does your parents react when you are eatting bacon?
Createach:
never thought about that...actually i feel a bit weird.....but i do not know what should i do about them.....i mean my parents
GuilinRaf:
My last girlfriend was Muslim, and while she never demand that I give up pork, I would refrain from eating it in front of her. She never asked me to, I just did so. No, I am not suggesting you do that. Just sharing what I used to do.
Createach:
Thank you for your valuable advice.....i accept this advice and i will try my best to do that.......THANK YOU AGAIN
Yes I do, and to be honest, I feel guilty about it. Pigs are cute and smart, but darn it! I wish they did not taste so good!
I love grilled ribs!
