I saw a spider recently that looked like it could carry away a grown man ! Or at least a child, A small one one( I may have exaggerated slightly but not too much)

It wasn't in my apartment, thank god.

Not really in China so much... I think the locals eat them all.

But in the Philippines there were a lot of these cool little newts/geckos running around on the walls and would catch the ceepy crawlies and eat them. Cute little guys.

ScotsAlan:

Yup.

I went to a corner shop a few weeks back and there was a woman inside butchering a rat.  She was using a pair of scissors to cut out all the little black bits from it's flesh. I assumed they were worms or some other type of parasite.

The cockroaches were cowering under the shelves, probably shitting themselves at the spectacle they were witnessing .

Not my usual corner shop by the way. It's closed now anyway.

Robk:

Well, maybe she closed it down to become a veterinarian and was in the midst of saving that rat's life. And after she did, it woke her up to all the good she could do in China and change...

Yeah, nvm... she was a sadistic peasant torturing a poor rodent.

In Philippines, I had the chance to see a hunterman spider, big as my hand, black and hairy. In China just little beasts too small to get that scared.

I was looking at apartments last year and would swear that I saw a roach as big as my hand.

When I lived in Hunan, I saw things that I didn't think were possible: humongous, freaky spiders with white and black polka dots all over it, and the biggest web I've ever seen in my life; a gigantic black beetle of doom with an ultra-colossal bitey-thing that was bigger than it's body, which I was deathly afraid of, but which my wife just nonchalantly smashed against the wall like it was nothing; my ex-girlfriend; and the most horrible thing of all... mega-gigantic... crawly thingies... with 100s of legs. I forgot what they call it. Millipede, right?

I live in Tianjin and there are not too many creepy crawlies. I am usually a brave man but I sh*t myself when I see spiders that are beyond a resonable size. Thankfully I don't see any big spiders inside. There are some pretty big orb web spiders near where I live though. I discovered the reason there are no spiders in my home are due to another predator. I only saw one clearly this summer. It was a creepy thing, it is called a house centipede. They are freaky but they eat spiders so I let them live rent free in my home. They eat spiders and cockroaches so they are pretty awesome really.

Here, we got an infestation of French exchange students from a business school. They always go around by groups of 30, blocking the entrance of a shop for everybody, while they ponder for 20 minutes what to buy. Then inside the shop, they will buy lots of booze and soda to mix with it. Of course, they haven't planned for anything, so when it's time to pay, they don't have enough money and will try to get away with it. Snarky comment of my wife "So that's the better education for our kids ?". Damned crawlies.
