Q: Do you have to have a Bachelors degree to apply for a z visa?

In 2007 I've been asked a copy of it and the related translation for getting the Working Permit.
Same in 2009 when I changed job and city.
Both in Guangdong.
Yes, you must. And to get you Expert certificate you must show them the original and they'll use a black light to check for water marks, if no water marks they'll use a new Software system to run a check on it. In small 5000 RMB salary cities you have a small chance to get by without it.

Haha. Sometimes I think you are just pulling this BS out to satisfy your own psychological needs. Check the diploma for the water marks? Haha, this is not happening in nearly all cases, maybe at top-notch employers but then they can just check references and the like.
How do all the foreign basketball and soccer players get the working visa? 99% of them do not have degrees.
Speaking for non-teachers it can be worked around if your skill is highly desired in China or lack of appropriate nationals who cannot perform the role. I know some foreigners here who started out in trades and worked up to project/construction managers working in China without any degrees.

That's because it depends on the Labor Departments requirements for that class of work. All categories and different types of work will get him or her a certificate to work in China. All depends on the company license and what type of company it is. If a company required a soccer player, well they must prove that in fact they're a soccer team owner and show the license.

We'll see crackdowns here and there, just like Sam I am popped up everywhere offering Green eggs and ham! Afterwards M visa's probably will be the new F visa's I'm guessing, with shorter stays allowed. Who knows, it's a wait and see gig as of now, we'll know more soon and even more in December.

The new visa laws started July 1st and any F visa's that were given at that time were only good for 6 months, so 90% of F visa's will expire in December 2013 if they were renewed in July under the new law. So lots of foreigners will be on the new visa system in December. so maybe visas will be harder to get. Maybe someone will not be granted the new visa. There are many questions we can't answer until people start getting visas this month next month and so on.
There is no requirement for a Bachelor's Degree in order to apply or get a work visa. But once you arrive in China, at Labor Dept for work permit, or when getting FEC, you may be asked to produce one, depends on which city you are in.

This is not 100% correct, for Americans, I had to send a copy of my Degree to get a Z visa, along with a health check and FBI record to China and bring the original to the Chinese consulate. Maybe its different for where ever HappyExPat is from or whatever job or city he applied for. But in Shenzhen yes, I had to show them my degree and FBI to the Chinese consulate in Colorado, U.S.A while applying for a Z visa in 2008. And Yes I needed it again at the labor department.
I don't understand ironman510 with his "December-theory". A lot of foreigners bought their new one-year F visa just before July. So they will have a visa till the end of June 2014.
for teachers? yes you need one, or you can pay an agency who can fake you one. Pretty much 8000 RMB ^^
for other fields? no you dont necessarily need a bachelor degree. Why? Because companies have more power and its easier to say we really need this person because he is so highly skilled blabla
