And what are their chances of getting teachers' positions in schools? Of course degrees obtained in their native countries, that is degrees in English language and literature. Thank you in advance for your answers.
10 years 13 weeks ago in Teaching & Learning - China
i met a Serbian guy in Harbin a few months back. he works at some university there. nice enough guy, his English was pretty good. i'm pretty sure his degree wasn't English, so if your's is, i'm sure you can get a job as well.
You should prepare your Resume with SHORT introduction of yourself, and all required documents (BA, TEFL, teaching experience, passport), and email it to FT job openings on eChina (top R side of the screen = 'Jobs in China') daily. There are more than 200 FT job openings every day.
Chinese won't reply, if they are not interested. Never mind! Don't stop sending your CV, till you don't land a job.
There is another website for FT @ 'Dave ESL Cafe'. Look there too! Good luck!
I've got a Serbian friend who's been working here consistently for at least 6 years on a 6000 a month, accommodation included gig with a reputable English training centre. Certainly work here for you if you're English is good enough.
I was in contact for several years with a nice young guy from Belgrade. He had been working in China for about three years. The visa was always an issue for him, and I mean always, and he was a university graduate. He taught in both LTC's and unis. He lost a goodly number of jobs but that was, according to him, and he was very honest, because of his lack of teaching skills. In the end, he returned to Belgrade after they tightened the visa restrictions last summer.
Dear Marijan,
please check your PM.
There is a FB group called "Shanghai Serbs", I would suggest you join it.
I would say there is a possibility of landing a teaching gig in China. I'm a Croat, currently in the middle of negotiation with 2 schools - it's not exactly a walk in the park, it requires a lot of patience and taking things said to you with a grain of salt. Especially when using recruiters.

You should also check http://answers.echinacities.com/question/can-some-teachers-here-please-share-their-experiences-about-teaching-china-us?page=1&type=latest#lastcomment posted by Bosnian guy. Towards the end of the topic you'll find that there're registered users from Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia here also. There's a Balkan invasion going on. :)
