I was watching a episode of the sit com MASH ..it was about a NTH Korean pilot that defected ...it got me thinking about a news story when i was a kid about a Chinese pilot who defected in the 80s .
actually it is pretty interesting when you read the whole thing.
SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 7— Officials here said that a Chinese Air Force test pilot defected to South Korea today in a MIG-21 fighter plane, setting off air-raid warnings all over the country.
The state radio interrupted programs to say the enemy was attacking by air in areas west of Seoul. The radio reported later that the alert was caused by the MIG-21 flown by the defecting pilot, Sun Dianjin, 46 years old.
South Korean warplanes scrambled and escorted the Chinese MIG to an unnamed South Korean air base, where the pilot was said to have been taken for questioning.
A Defense Ministry spokesman said the pilot had asked to be allowed to go to a third country to seek political asylum. The country was not named.
In Taiwan a spokesman for the Nationalist Government, which has a standing reward offer of $2.5 million to any Chinese Air Force flier who defects with a MIG fighter, said it would welcome the pilot.
The spokesman said that the defector was attached to a Chinese aviation test squad, and that he had told South Korean officials he was on a navigation training flight over northeast China when he decided to defect.
The last Chinese Air Force pilot who defected to South Korea was Capt. Wu Yungkeng, 25, who arrived in October. He was granted political asylum in Taiwan, where he received $2.5 million worth of gold and became a major in the Nationalist Chinese Air Force. North Korea Denies Spy Charge
TOKYO, Aug. 7 (Reuters) - North Korea said today that a boat that South Korea said it had sunk Friday off of its southeastern coast was not a North Korean spy ship but a South Korean vessel fired on by its own side.
The official North Korean news agency, monitored here, quoted the daily newspaper Rodong Sinmun as saying that the incident had nothing to do with North Korea.
South Korea's Defense Ministry said Friday that it had sunk a North Korean spy boat off the southeastern town of Wolsong, killing five people.
Rodong Sinmun said the sinking happened during South Korean war games.

Mash was very good
ironman510:
Hawkeye was my teacher and he taught me how to make it in Asia, especially in Asia, with a dab of Charles on the side.
Stiggs:
Me too, Hawkeye and BJ taught me how to cope living in difficult conditions. You go back to your tent / apartment and drink cheap nasty liquor, and it doesn't mean you have a drinking problem, it's actually a healthy coping mechanism. Ganbei

I still watch it to this day, all download, its perfect at Starbucks and so many seasons to last you in China.
Who is your western or Chinese boss like? My boss is like Frank Burns 100%
Yes, of course!....but I am an older reprobate.
In the UK, BBC 2 aired MASH. But importantly they aired it WITHOUT THE CANNED LAUGHTER.
This made all the difference and actually improved the series, the funny bits were better and the serious parts were more dignified.
With a good script and great performances I don't need stupid fake honking and hawking to tell me when to laugh.
I'm always disappointed when I watch an episode now and it has the laughter track, Spoils it really,
MASH used to be easily found on the torrents, probably still is.
It's one of the classics worth downloading and keeping.
Yeah. I remember MASH 4077. Hot lips. Radar and Klinger. I still watch reruns. I felt the movie could not measure up to the original sitcoms.

Did you see the final episode? That can bring a tear to the eye even now.

Ummm - the movie came first. The series was inspired by it - not the other way around!
