Q: Do you smoke in China?

I know ardent non-smokers who will accept a smoke and smoke it...whether offered by a big man or just a brand they like or connect to (Chinese dudes).

For the non-smokers here have you ever just smoked for face?

For smokers...do you smoke more in China than back home?

I'm a non-smoker.  By that I mean I might smoke 2 or 3 cigarettes per year.  Usually when hammered wink.  That rate of consumption hasn't really changed since coming to China.  It's just now I can combine the drunken-smoke into a face-giving activity!  Main examples have been a smoke when out with the boss at KTV, or a smoke with the ex-gf's family last Chinese New Years.

If I'm not drinking, a simple 不用了, 不谢谢 usually works.

I used to smoke 10/15 years ago at Uni. Since I started coming to China, I often partake when I'm offered and sometimes smoke for a couple of weeks at a time before coming to my senses and going cold turkey again. A smoker is always a smoker.

I think its ace though that people can still smoke in restaurants, bars, ktv etc. - those were the good old days.

Face issues for non-smokers having a toke, who cares, the main thing is, don't get addicted!!!

I definitely smoke more here since smoking seems to be allowed almost everywhere- even places where you're not supposed to smoke people still do.

Never smoked.  Never have smoked and will not smoke here for anything nor for any amount.  Life is too short with outgoing giving oneself cancer.

I'm sorry but I'm one of those virulent smoke haters, (typically, I'm a reformed nicotine addict) I detest the habit, the smell permeates everything.

I quit smoking about 15 years ago, we are always addicted. I don't hang around with any smokers at home. In China I broke down and had one, then a pack, then 2 packs every day. Now I'm trying to quit. I can kill someone now and have a good defense to get off.

I've been smoking for exactly three quarters of my life and now the doctors tell me i've got to quit or I might be in trouble. Also i've got a kid now so I think I need to because he'll only end up copying me otherwise. Plus I don't want to stink to him so I brush my teeth after every ciggy at home. Poor kid must think i'm made of toothpaste. So yeh, every smoke is too much but my teeth have never been cleaner.

Never smoked in my life unless you count second hand smoking as actual smoking. And even then when fatties are smoking their joints I hold my breath then walk out the room. Most of the time it was when I was playing poker at the bar had no choice but to endure that crap!

non-smokers in China just refuse to smoke politely.  people understand this and will not blame you or hate you. so just do as you like. actually China forbid smoking in public gradually
