Q: Do you think Chinese girls are really attuned to fashion in America or Europe?

The high low hem dresses have only really caught on recently in Europe and America when I was there. Barely 5 months later, I see SO many girls wearing them here. It's like they all went on the same website, which told them the latest trends and then BAM went out and bought them.

Do you feel girls here try to dress like we do, or do they really have their own style?

This is just my opinion, I have no idea if good or wet, since one, I am not a girl, and two, I am not Chinese.

But, for whatever it is worth, here I go :

Younger Chinese Ladies are always in their minds seeking a "favorable" husband.  One with a good job, an apartment, a car, and money to spend on them.  So, in regards to fashion trends, they do buy whatever is available locally that will show their best "attributes" during the summer months.  Real short shorts (Daisy Duke will not wear them "that" short), real short skirts, translucent or see thru blouses, etc.  Think of it as an advertising campaign to sell goods, and you will get the right idea.

Couple this with the fact that for many, showing panties or bras is nothing, because you can not "see" what is underneath.  And in general, Chinese men do not look that much, so they are forced to stretch the limits to get the desired look.

To me, as May gets closer, I look forward to the display.  But by August, or September, I have quit looking around, too many of the same.  And, at least here. some Ladies riding electrical bikes, leave little to the imagination.  Or some sitting on benches at parks.

And I have seen those short hem dresses and skirts here in China for years now.

Yesterday when I got on the bus I saw an attractive young woman, probably high school age, with a t-shirt that read "Bed Breaker". When she saw me look at it she covered it up with her flannel.

So, I don't know what these girls are doing. I'd say good fashion sense is pretty rare here.

Still get to know China.

But I think their idea of fashion abit different than europe.

Here they love more "details and rather complicated" things. Where in europe they dress more simple..

Really, now. Not to make anyone angry, but if the majority of women in American dressed like the women do here in China, they would be arrested for suspicion of being prostitutes. I'm sorry if that sounds rude, but it's true.

For the extreme ones, I'd kind of agree. It's just a different sense of what's acceptable. See through stuff, where you can see your bra, would be distasteful in America, but I've seen women wear that kind of stuff to work in an office.

giadrosich:

I agree, which is one reason I was reluctant to bring up the issue. Believe me, I love summer time fashion as much as the next guy, but how many women have I seen in extra-tight, micro skirts or shorts wearing boot and/or high-heeled shoes with fishnet stockings. Not to mention a collection of pastel-hued translucent blouses with bright red or black undergarments.

Or, a woman whose age reveals she should know better dressing like a teenager. And while these "fashion" trends are not reserved to China, sometimes, from an American or European sense, they could be considered "tacky," but then again, when shopping in U.S. Wal-Marts, I've seen more tacky than you can shake a stick at, the results of which is like trying to stuff 20 lbs of flour into a 5 lb. bag! At least here in China, tacky is undergirded with something a little more appealing to the eye.

As HappyEP wrote, there is, perhaps a method to their dressing this way, but I was just drawing the comparison for the sake of argument. Culture is as culture does, wherever one may be.

Hi Delphine,

Actually, a Chinese gal told me that Chinese girls like the S. Korean fashions.

mowenting:

That sounds right, I've seen Chinese guys copying the South Korean styles as well, from hair to clothing.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
