Q: Doers or followers ?
In Western cultures, you more or less see an equal split between doers and followers. And so there is no mistake, "doers" are those willing to lead, to jump on an opportunity and make the best out of it, who will not deviate from their goals until achiving them, who take comand of a situation and will guide others in achiving his goals. And fowwollers are the reverse, those content to sit back, and do the bare minimum in order to get by.
That said, In USA, called by many the Land of Opportunity, it is not that it is the only place where opportunities may arise, but maybe it is the place where many will recognize the opportunity and make the best out of it.
To me, very unfortunately, I do not see manhy "doers" in China. I am not saying they do not have them, because they do. But I do not see about an equal split like in many Western societies.
Am I mixing with the wrong people, or am I all wet, or am I correct in my opinion?
In my experience, even the doers don't really do much.

Perhaps it is just how the country operates philosophically. There is a saying in Japanese about the nail that sticks out on the wall should be pounded in and I have asked my Chinese friends if there is something similar and they have said yes. Perhaps it is just the Asian way of doing things. I saw the same patterns in Japan as I see here.
There is competition here, for a fact, and there are shakers and movers an doers, but it tends to be done Chinese-style, I believe, in ways a lot more subtle and in ways that often go unnoticed to Western eyes and ears.

I have to agree with your comment. While the majority of folk here are followers, There is plenty of doing going on. As you said, their tactics are just very different. I learned this as I am currently helping someone to set up business here. The Asian and Western ways are very divergent.
