Q: Does anyone work in the week before Chunjie?

So Chunjie has the same meaning to people as Christmas, marks the end of the year, going home, have fun, relaxing etc. etc. So in the week before Chunjie is it like the week before Christmas? People are in the office but no one is really working and every night you are going to Chunjie parties, eating great food and getting drunk (which also lessens the chance of productive work the next day).

Actually no. Everyone's busy trying to get home. If you haven't got a ticket on any of the available transportation by now, you'd be stuck till the 1st and 2nd day of Chinjie. In most offices from yesterday onwards, they are running on skeleton crews only. That's why everything slows down. By end of this week, the city you're living in would be like a ghost town.

yes, the people who havent left early and still must stay in the office arent really working. Some have more pressure as its end of year, but most are having dinners and playing on qq, and pretty much doing nothing.

I showed up at my factory at 10 this morning, and i was the only dude there. At like 11 one worker showed up and said everyone went to buy tickets home and they MAY be back later. I didnt stick around to find out if they came back.

I suggest it is more like does anyone work in the winter ..... mid December to end of Feb.....my Chinese family has sort of adopted Xmas as a holiday and it just carries right on through...  wife, works at a school/university, she's off for  6 weeks.....step daughter works and studies at a school in Shenzhen,,,, she is home for 6 weeks.(no pay and no studying) ..I am confused.......12+ hours a day of nothing but work/struggle and then 6 weeks of nothing ....couple 3-4 days at least of irritating travel ...    the holiday system and the work scheduling has to change, in my humble opinion . I know I am not the only one, but this kind of "forum" at least lets me think I have a say..... I'm outta here Feb.6th to relax and hopefully regain some sanity...come back and do it all over again.
