In Guangzhou they're pretty much the same with the "odd" exception. In truth i don't get why people teach the Kindergarten, it's WAY more work for the same money, so unless you have a special affinity for kids and just LOVE them, teach adults, way easier gig, same money, you meet cool people... FOR ME, it's a no brainer...

Most are private schools. Usually the public primary school do not have the legal right to hire a foreign teacher.

Most kindergarten jobs I got offered were 6500-7000 for 40+ hour weeks. No thanks.

If its money your after. Stay away from the "Chain" schools - especially " Disney " - yikes - what a horrible history of abuse etc. ( Its pure edu-tainment and is being used as a portal to the soon to come theme park. Meanwhile the ex-pat privates pay well but are often situated on the out skirts of town and often times require a five day week with " staffing hours " in office - merely means you don't teach the full hours required but are expected to maintain office hours ( that is fair I think ). The up side to the private venue is you build a better resume and are looked at much more professionally. Many of the Chain out fits are looked on as laughable. Also check University listings. There are now new coursed being developed to assist the Chinese student headed abroad who might need extra tutoring. Good luck.

One advice about making more money that I see a lot of foreigners not realizing..... contact schools directly.

If you see job ads online for a school, its pretty likely that someone is getting a % of what the "real" salary is.

If you have some chinese friends that don't mind helping out. Have them call some schools and talk to them direclty. You'll usually get paid quite a bit more.

New teachers often join kindergartens because they pay more than other schools. However, I've heard from numerous teachers that its a nightmare. Once you get experience and have some certifications to go with it you can find a better paying (and less stressful) job pretty easily.

They do pay better because it's far more demanding, particularly if you're a newby teacher. Personally I enjoy it but i'd never teach kids younger than 8 unless there was a classroom consultant present, they haven't had enough experience of being in classrooms and don't yet know that your supposed to sit in your chairs and not climb around under them. Also helps to have some Chinese under your belt too.

in guangzhou kindergarten pays more but like everyone says it involves more work, kids running around, the class is interrupted every few min with a kid running out of the class, 8-10 is a good age, doesnt involve much work. the lessons are fairly simple, fun and the kids are well behaved,

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
