Q: Does your school expect you to pay your electricity

Our college requires us (foreign teachers) to pay our el.power & water bills. Our dorm is free of charge, so is our internet & TV. We used to have fixed phones, but the school required us to pay for it last summer (local calls used to be free in good old days), so we just use our  mobiles now. If we want to use gas cookers, we have to buy propane tanks & gas stoves ourselves.  We've been given  el. stoves &  microwaves. I'm not complaining, I just want to know what do you pay in your school /college for & what is on the house. Thanks.

My apartment rented by the School in Dalian costs 1500 Rmb per month. Internet and TV is included in rent price. Rent is part of my salary.

I must pay water and electricity separately every two months.

It depends on the School, you are working for. My worst School was in Huachuan, Heilongjiang, where I had to pay all utilities. I had to even call Chinese contractor to repair leaking bathroom faucet, or get me new propane tank.

My best School was in Jixian, Hebei, where I wasn't required to pay any utilities. Not even bottled drinking water. I just had to call School rep., and everything was delivered following day.

I didn't mention Helen Group, which deducted 2000 Rmb every month for 25m2 room with Internet and TV on the Campus.

(Do you live in a dorm?)

At my last job they paid for everything including water up to 20L (or gallons?) per month.

At this school I pay electric costs over 600 and pay for all my drinking water. The apartment phone includes 400 free local minutes per month but I don't use it.

Guilin I my utilities were deducted from my salary. I had to pay for my own drinking water and propane tank, but they would call the delivery people for us.

Internet was free., but n o cable tv.

Beijing, I pay for my own internet, but all utilities are free.

Like icnif77 said above, it all depends on the school.

My first job, I had an apartment on-campus. I had to pay for an excess of water cost (but the amount I had to use before I hit that excess charge was pretty high, so I never had to), for drinking water (5RMB for a 20L), and electricity. Other costs (internet, gas) was free (along with the pc in the room).

Otherwise, I've rented my own place, and received an allowance for it.
