Q: Drama Club/Theater Teachers

I am taking on a new project in my school. Last year I had many students do a theatrical reading performance of "A Christmas Carol". It was a huge success. This year I am developing Drama Club, which will ultimately produce a theater play. Are there any teachers on this site that has experience as a Drama or Theater coach who I can befriend as a mentor for ideas and suggestions in developing this new project? I have limited experience in drama and theater and would like someone with experience to act as a sounding board and advisor as I go through this process. I have many resources I have obtained from the internet, as well as purchased some books on the subject.

Excellent question... Bump.

Might be an answer on the ESL sites?

nashboroguy:

I have the same question on other sites. I just thought that some ESL teachers on here might be able to help too. I am not completely out of my element here, but I know that I have much to learn regarding drama/theater teaching.

I can't help you but I want to recommend sth. I've done this w/ my students using Shakespeare, I have them first translate the lines into modern English. I also have them translate Chinese works into English.

If I was a teacher here, I would teach "Death of a salesman".

I will be using David Farmer's, "101 Drama Games and Activities" and Denver Casado's "Teaching Drama: The Essential Handbook". My students will get certificates by completing the ASDAN "Expressive Arts" short course program. I also have numerous websites and videos to pull material from. My goal with this program is not necessarily to teach them about theater or acting, but rather about how to use these skills to improve their overall English. Last year, when the students did the theatrical reading, we saw significant increases in their TOEFL scores and better in-class works.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
