Q: driving a car in Beijing with another province plate number?

May I please ask what are the implications of driving a car with another province plate number in Beijing and how can it be formalized  if you have to as I always see a lot of cars on the road with non Beijing plates?

Its no problem to drive a car with another cities plates.  You might need to pay some extra tolls. And you will need to go back to your original place for insurance and inspections. But thats about it.  Ive been doing it for years, although im at least in the same province so its not a hassle.

Depending on how far the distance is between the two cities, it is probably better that it is not Beijing plates.  Licence plates there can be expensive and/or  hard to get.  Plus to change city registration is a whooooole lot of trouble. But still can be done if needed.

I drive around Southern China with license plates from Foshan, Guangdong as they are much cheaper than license plates from Guangzhou or Shenzhen, that includes major cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanning, ...

I never had any problems with the cops.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
