Q: Due many bizarre recent facts, should mainland chinese kept in their country?

Couple of days ago I saw a video about the way mainland chinese people created some disturbs in HK and all people from HK shouted them to stay in mainland & not bother & invade them.

Yesterday the case of the chinese who damaged the egyptian antique and now the girl who thought flushed her baby away.

I wonder due these and other well known cases, should all countries harden more the policies to get visa for chinese nationals? Or even stop giving visas to them?

I know can't judge all for the action of some, but sometimes the actions of some are the worst and damage so much.

No set the women free.

Samsara:

I think that should be discussed at the U.N.

Everyone would benefit except for the 700 million instantly single Chinese men. They might just learn a valuable lesson.

I'll help out on that. I'll adopt two, providing they are middle aged and sisters.

The majority are good people, they are just not fully adjusted from moving out of the village. Traveling and seeing the world will in the long run help the Chinese people.

But you do know that many Chinese people are not free to travel. E.g. many state owned companies like banks take their employees passports and they need to ask their employer for permission to go out of the country. I know a girl that is only allowed to leave the country twice per year, and one of those times is used on a "company" trip to either Taiwan or Hong Kong (funny how they can use those particular places to take points of the "travel abroad" allowance)

The economics say no, this is from the BBC on the Egyptian graffiti (by a Chinese tourist) story:

"Chinese tourists spent $102bn (£67bn) overseas last year, up 40% on the year before, and the UN World Tourism Organisation says China is now the single biggest source of global tourism income."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-22677980

Scandinavian:

according to data from my home country's tourism something something institution, the Chinese tourists are only valuable because they com in numbers, the average spending per day per tourist is quite low. this means the environmental impact per currency-unit spent is not in favor of the Chinese. The Chinese are outperformed in spending by tourists from countries such as Russia, Japan, Korea, Brazil.

It is not unlikely that the spending per tourist will go up significantly as they go on more and more insane spending sprees purchasing designer goods

You are right that worldwide the Chinese spends the most money as tourists, but I cannot find any numbers that take into account the trail of trash they leave behind. I would guess the cost of restoring some old stuff in Egypt would be significant

Hugh.G.Rection:

If you're a retailer selling coffee and cakes at a tourist spot, you really don't care whether you sell a million cups of coffee to one person or one cup of coffee to a million people, the net profit is the same, (and in this case so would be the trash).

Now the environmental impact of all that traveling, (esp by air) is another matter but that is in no way limited to Chinese tourists any more than any other nation. If you support restricting the travel of Chinese nationals on that basis you must equally support restricting the travel of any other nationality, (and good luck with that in USA / UK / Aus etc etc).

Scandinavian:

Actually it is not. If you go into your local Starbucks and order a million cups of coffee. Done, order entered into system, the guy at the cash register can help make the million cups of coffee. If a million people orders one cup, there would be a need for an additional staff for taking orders etc. The profit would not be the same. One million coffee drinkers would also use more water in the toilets etc (although one person with a million cups of coffee would probably also put some strain on the plumbing)

the world has let china have its economic miracle and now we are taking  back (trade imbalance) the money we have given  them, in tourism and education. the problem is we want get it all back before their baby boom crashes the country and the housing market.

On the contrary,  Chinese people need more experience outside of their home country.  The recent problems illustrated in the press have been mainly due to the widespread ignorance of international public standards and etiquette.  The more they travel abroad, the more mature and educated these people will get about how to behave on the outside.

GuilinRaf:

Sadly, they dont learn.

Look how many go to hong Kong, and act the very same way, before, during and after their trip.

They will learn if given enough time.  Contrary to the popular opinion on this board, Chinese people are human.  Humans learn to adapt to different environments when given the opportunity.  Chinese are newcomers to world travel.   The common Chinese aren't even able to leave China.  When that happens, they can finally take their place as responsible world tourists.

I have never said that they were not human.

If you have seen my previous posts, you will remember that I have stood up for the Chinese as well. I have praised them and I have been critical to the West as well.

I wasn't referring to any specific person, Guilin.   I was just commenting on the general spirit here sometimes.  No scolding was intended.  I only wanted to emphasize that, given the same stimuli as Western tourists, the Chinese will react similarly, if given the time for their behavior to normalize.  The constant poking at the bazaar behavior of Chinese people is akin to adults making fun of a young teenager's awkward social behavior.  The Chinese people have come a helluva' way.  I can at least give them that.

my bad!

guess I was being a bit too sensitive.

Thanks for the reply. EDIT: And i agree, they have come a very long way in a short period of time. We need to be more patient sometimes.
