Q: Find issues hot on Chinese internet

I teach an English Debate class in a university in Tianjin, and it is hard to encourage discussion among my students.

Often the issues that would be hot for me are not hot for the students. I have begun to find out some issues the students discuss such Ke Zheng Dong being arrested for drug use, but I would like to know of a site that highlights and translates issues that are hotly disscussed among Chinese netizens.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Erm, isn't this website exactly that? Some of the China Media articles may be interesting for discussions, they tend to be about random things that will spark debate.

ChinaFile have well-writen articles, with multiple point of views put next to each other, but I think that your students will find those topics boring or uninspiring (ie. anything related to politics and economics that does not trigger programmed emotional response like Japan)

ChinaSmack says its bring the hottest topics amongst the Mainland Chinese netizens
http://www.chinasmack.com/
I find it oven trashy ie. it's a lot of content to trigger emotional answers with little analysis effort. The comment section is a nest of trolls

Shanghaiist is about the same, but it manages to have an even worse comment section than ChinaSmack.
