Q: Fired, what is next

So I saw this coming, I landed and felt screwed. Received this email after asking about my pay check.

Dear I was told you just taught for one period last month? I got some feed back and comments about your performance so far in Lishui from your co-workers and Chinese school leaders. I think it might be important for all of us to review your performance, your qualification and teaching assignment.  Meanwhile I asked my assistant who is in charge of legal issues for the company to review the contract you signed. I will call and talk you later this weekend or by email.     I am concerned because in the contract it says with 30 days notice no matter what you will not get a letter. I assumed letter of release and not letter of recommendation. What are my options I just landed and I did not get my permit yet. Last contract I was told if you don't like it don't sign once you get in country so I wanted to see what it was like.

Wow, you must be one of the biggest loser to get fired from a teaching job, standards in China are so low that drunken fools who are always hangover in class and late everyday succeed at keeping their jobs. Even Chinese teachers don't do much, although often more than FT.

coineineagh:

'scuse me? I haven't known Chinese Teachers to do more than me. They teach roughly a quarter the amount of classes I do, and half their class hours are simply (but reluctantly) assisting me during class. I even know a teacher who walks out during classes under the excuse of encouraging kids to speak more English to me (old policy, rescinded coz it didn't work). I'm amazed she can get away with it, and frankly a bit jealous. They receive about a quarter of my salary, I believe, so they give their money's worth.

To the OP, know your crime is not venial, not low...but you must die as an example so that others should not fail. Any sacrifice is worthwhile so long as it helps China ever so little. Yours is also a way of dying for China.

There's a bunch of poons in here judging by the amount of down votes. Real work is sacrifice indeed.  We are here for China.  FOR CHINA!   I'm no teacher but I still put my time in.  I make sure to give every curious student possible English practice whether I'm on the Subway or in the street.  It's sorta part of my destiny and why I'm here.  Perhaps teacher is my calling for the future, I dunno.  However I would never allow myself to be fired and if that did happen, then I should get fired by the firing squad too.  There's no excuses.

I don't know real happenings/reasons for firing at your school for detailed answer.

I would suggest, you ask for advice at SAFEA in your city. Type 'SAFEA' in search above for address and contact no.

I was dismissed (without cause) several months ago from school in Fujian. My Residence permit was burned in the process, and I'm currently waiting for docs. in EU to apply for new Z visa.

As soon as I return to China, I will file lawsuit against the school in Fujian for wrongful dismissal.

Lets have fun.

We'll seeangel.

As I wrote earlier, I wouldn't bother with law suits in China, buTT....before RPermit expiration I got 30 days S2 visa, and I was counting that will be sufficient time for the new School to renew RPermit. I was advised on the whole RP cancelation by Fujian SAFEA.

However, Henan PSB told School's rep. 'it's not possible to renew RP with/after S2'. I had to exit China, and apply for new Z.

That's what sets me off. I wouldn't mind to be dismissed for no valid reason/violation, if I could keep RP.

3M lost salaries, return flight to EU, some monnies for 45 days stay in EU, and my 'suffering' will 'heal' me.

You can't keep RP, but new employer can extend it without applying for new Z/exiting China. My wording sucks.

I did that in Liaoning in 2012. I resigned from School in Yingkou (Z/RP sponsored by Helen), and started to work for Jordan in Dalian (same Province).

We visited Dalian PSB, and PSB changed their records (IMO). I kept RP, and at the RP expiration, it was extended by new (Dalian) School.

Same happening in the above/recent case: my RP was closed/burned with S2 visa. New school couldn't change PSB records, and told me: 'by Henan PSB it's impossible to do anything with S2, but exit and apply for new Z'. Only difference is, in 2012 I changed employer in the same Province.

Law might change on that, but I'll seek Chinese lawyer's help.

Sounds like BS, I'm not going to tell you the mistake you made but  this clearly did not happen.

For anyone who might ever really get fired

Unless you screwed up royally they should not terminate you immediately. They should let you go within the terms of the contract. Either way they still must provide release documents. Any problems go directly to SAFEA but remember this is China. In my experience only 2 things got them off their ass no payment of salary and not providing documents/ canceling FEC. Document everything, if your salary is late, send text/ emails inquiring as to your salary. More than a 3-4 days late, go directly to SAFEA.

Always be prepared to leave the country and renew from home.

Really sad to see what ECC has turned into. People are asking for legitimate advice, and it's not a joke, and all we're doing is mocking them because they're "anonymous"? Sad.

Now, many schools won't terminate you unless you royally fucked up, or they found a replacement. My advice is to look for another job. Start looking now!

icnif77:

I was dismissed for no reason. After I complained for (30 days) noise in the apartment, School offered me to move in the apartment in higher floor. I agreed, however I asked School to move my broadband connection first. Rep. told me I must pay 50 Rmb for BB transfer. I refused, and next day (25 days before the start of semester) I got dismissal notice.

No valid reason for dismissal by Contract!

'add-it': why not register? As anon one can keep going on 'how to teach….', and with handle you can ask same/similar Q only once! Disclaimer: 'I am (partially) paid by eChina for …...'

Think about the process the school has to go through to get your Z visa and what documents are required. Think about what has to be filled out and applied for in the first goddam week of your arrival and what documents are required.

Basically it is impossible to arrive on a Z visa and not have a signed contract 2 weeks later. This story is full of holes.

if your in china and qualified, so many training schools would jump at a chance to hire you, since your already here, the more remote the location the better the chance, if your dont have a english speaking countries passport or 2 years experience, well that could be a big problem.

@icniff77,

You misunderstood my post. Your English level is extremely bad, and your posts are often unintelligible. Even my wife doesn't speak or write that bad. This is one of the reasons why so many Chinese have terrible English; they're being cheated by teachers who have no business teaching English in the first place.

You've been here for years and, during that time, your English hasn't improved at all. You show no desire to improve your command of the language you claim to teach. You are effectively cheating your employers and your students.

I have no problem with you teaching English, so as long as you're able to speak, read, and write at a native level. You aren't even remotely close. Therefore, you continue to get paid to lie, cheat, and steal.

icnif77:

We can meet in the Court of Law for this accusation, if you have balls!?

But I'll say, you're brave only on the anon board.

Why do you feel entitled to determine and judge my English writings? I'm not looking for job at eChinacities.

Does it hurt you Non-natives can work as teachers of language you were born in?

I miss your inlaws and triad stories.

expatlife26:

listen I don't care about non native speakers taking jobs no matter what their level is...if they'll pay you that's their business theres enough ESL jobs for everyone who is willing to move here and do them.

That being said,

I don't know for sure that your english communication is bad in real life, but it IS bad on this forum...like tons of people say we don't have a clue what you're talking about half the time.

So if your writing on the forum is like how you communicate in real life then maybe there IS a problem with your work and you just don't see it. It might seem like they just fired you for no reason but maybe somebody noticed you aren't really close to a native level and whoever hired you doesn't want to look bad by admitting they missed it in the interview process...so they came up with some random excuse. And that really sucks.

I'm not saying youre doing anything wrong. I would do the same thing if I had to. For example I know nothing about tax law, but if I was out of work and somebody saw my resume and stupidly thought i'd be a perfect Head of Audit or something and offered a big salary I'd probably take it and try to figure it out quickly...and most likely fail and get fired after a few months. I'd try my best and it'd be their fault for not looking at my resume.

But let's say I'm on a tax accountants forum where I constantly misuse accounting terms and post strange conspiracy information. Do you think the people on that forum would have a lot of sympathy for me getting fired? Hell no. They'd say I obviously didn't belong in that job to begin with because all they have to evaluate me on is what I post in their forum.

To them it's not BS I was fired for not being able to perform tax audits well when I don't know the first thing about local taxation to begin with. It's BS the company hired me in the first place.

Again I dunno if that's what you are doing, maybe in person you are a good communicator but you ARE NOT here. So that's all we have to go on. To us you're the person who demonstrates a lack of ability for their job complaining they got fired. We aren't jealous assholes whining that a non-native speaker get into the elite club of ESL teachers...it's just frustrating that what you show us says that you can barely communicate in english. Regardless of how good you might be in person. Just looking at your writing here you're unintelligible. It's like reading google translate to the extent I first thought you were a local just writing through google translate. Seriously, i'm not making that up or saying it to talk shit. That's what I thought.

Where are you from originally? Do you have a passport from an english native country?

really I wish you nothing but the best, it's not like there aren't enough ESL jobs for everyone who wants one. You aren't taking a job away from a native speaker at a  lower price or anything, I hope you can find something else.

to me the EU thing just seems kinda evasive. Holding an EU passport could mean all kinds of things, could be a native born austro-hungarian...could be an algerian holding a french passport or frankly could be a Chinese national who got their EU passport just a few years ago.

My hunch is that someone saying they are an EU Passport Holder means they are trying to avoid the direct question because the answer is going to be something that further counts against them as an english teacher. Even if it only counts against them because of local prejudice.

Again I don't think anybody I know on this forum is saying that non native speakers shouldn't get to teach english if they can do the job. I'll take that one step further and say if they'll pay you even if you aren't good at english then good for you.

I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, just that you can't be surprised when you have a lot of trouble with employment because your english seems really bad and you  may not be from where they are looking to hire from. When you try to game the system, you'll have more trouble than someone who is doing it the "right" way. And you can't take the moral high ground about it.

Your opinion doesn't count in China! So, why do you bother here? Did I attack or offend anybody?

English isn't my native language, so I suck. Big forking deal!

Can you write in any other language better than I can in English?

If I wouldn't be good as English teacher, I wouldn't work last 5 years in China.

Fujian: School's rep. (not teacher) is the only English (passable) speaker at the School. Did he judge my English sucks, and got me dismissed? Everything what happened before dismissal was handed to me, it was Contract violation. School didn't have valid reason for dismissal, because semester didn't begin yet.

I received dismissal, because School belongs to the agency with many other schools (and not so good contracts). Agency was counting, I will accept other Contract to avoid RPermit cancelation, but I've look for new RP sponsor elsewhere.

We talk law here, not my English!

Your detective skills are amazing! Can you make such conclusions just by reading? Un-be-forking-livable!

I've forgotten the question but what I'd really like to do is meet up with Icni and share a hundred bevvies with him.

Can't help but admit I like the blokes style, in a Pythonesque kind of way.  (No offence matey..)

I can't understand much of what he's on about, admittedly.  But, in the words of the great Bert Newton..."I like the boy!"

Reckon he'd be better company than most of the other drone heads I've met since hanging around in this country.

icnif77:

We'll get together eventually, but I'm curious which part of my writings in this thread is not-understandable?

It is understandable to me (of course), and when somebody say 'I don't understand (your English)' I usually take it as an (lousy) excuse. See ''Bulk's moronic, 'over 2m tall, no brain'' reply. I never get that on other (US trading) Boards in 20 years.

How would you react, if I would tell you 'I don't understand you' after you explained to me something in other language (than your native)?

If I would be Native English speaker, and if I wouldn't understand you, I would say: ''What that means: 'you're liable in Court for your Internet writings (slugs).....'', and then you would or not explain it to me, buTT...I would never call upon my 'birth rights', because Non-native doesn't have defense on that, and this isn't Native English Board.
