So I miss my online gaming! I love China and I've been enjoying my experience here to the fullest, but there are times I just wanna stay home and chill out with some beer and sit down with some PS3 or Xbox. First off, is it illegal here to own a PS3 or Xbox? and can I have games shipped over from the states? Also can I play Xbox live here in China? I haven't tried and figured I'd ask before I did.
Cheers!

you can get them. but you have to hunt hem down, probably on the bottom floor of a "computer city" or a little game shop somewhere. as for games. you can buy them but the selection is crap. unless you want to buy copyed games, then they are cheap and pleantifull
Cheap and plentiful aye? I doubt you live down the street from me and you can show me where these places are so are their any website you know of that sells em?
If you get your xbox or PS3 cracked here, you can get all the latest games for around 5RMB each. They are available in most computer markets in tier 1 & 2 cities. I don't know about tier 3 cities.
You can do all of the above. Nothing you ship will be illegal to bring in China. The only reason you may be thinking it is illegal is because you've probably heard about China banning youtube and other sites you were able to access in Sandiego CA. The only thing that would be prohibited for you to bring into China is something that may say something bad about China. That's why they banned youtube there were videos about Taiwan and how China was handling those situations and the government didn't like that so they banned youtube and other sites altogether. Let me know if you still want to use those sites by the way.
Why would you think these consoles are considered illegal here? My husband bought two PS3s here and apparently PS3 prices are more expensive here in China than in the US.
Shipping ur XBox games from the US to here is pricier. Instead, find a computer market in your location and check out some of those 5kuai Xbox games They are as good as the original ones.
I've been told that they don't sell games like Xbox and PS3 and been told that they don't like Chinese kids playing them, and thanks to my ignorance, I taught myself to believe it was illegal. Thank you all for your kindness and helpfulness. In fact, I do live in Qingdao my friend.

well i wanst expecting that hehe, im gonna be in jiaozhou (about and hour away) untill the end of the month. send me a PM im sure we can work something out.
the copied 5rmb games are great and plentiful but.... you cannot play online with a cracked xbox, the console will auto update and re-write the cracking code. So, when you go to buy know that buying a cracked console is great for alot of cheap games but pointless if you want to play online, then just get a normal one and fork out for the original games.
Oh, one more thing. If you buy a cracked xbox or have your xbox cracked, you will not be able to play xbox live because Microsoft will ban your console. Unfortunately, that is the price to pay for 5RMB games.
As mentionned above, you can find all you need for really low prices, but can't play on Xbox live, unless you have a VPN network. And if you do, while using fake games, your Xbox will be banned. So basically there's no way you can play on Xbox live.
Not that you asked, but I do PC online gaming (well, did til I got bored with it... waiting to purchase Skyrim now!), and other than sometimes getting crap lag (well, crappier than usual), and the occasional boot, all was fine and dandy. In all honesty, the experience wasn't much worse than back in Oz...
I occasionally had to bypass the GFoC, but I could play without that quite easily.
(btw, this was on an MMORPG...)
Yeah I play mmorpg too, all online activity seems fine, occasionaly my account gets blocked when i forget to use a vpn as they register a connectin from china and think it is gold sellers haha. I donk think the powers-that-be have a problem with online gaming, the lag does suck sometimes though.
All I know is that its the crack on xboxes and ps3s that casue the problem with online gaming, the system wants to update the consoils firmware to be inline with the servers, this then erases the hack and makes the console "normal" again. PCS are fine, there has never really been much control over windows software and games anyway.
