Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: getting australian degrees authenticated in singapore
in the midst of preparing paperwork for the work visa and one of the criteria is to get my degree authenticated in the country where it was issued. Thing is I'm a Singaporean who holds an Australian degree.
I've called to the visa centre who and their advice was to get it authenticated at the chinese consulate in Melbourne
has anyone faced such issue and know to go around this and if there's any other way to get it done?
Appreciate any help given. Thank you!

It's easy to check if an Australia degree is real. Just check the vice chancellor's signature. If his name isn't Bruce then it's a forgery.
I'm giving this answer for everyone. Do not use a local, especially Chinese, companies. Do a search in your own country and find a company in you own country. Local companies will rip you off and charge you 3X the actual cost from another company
You may be in the situation where you'll NEED to have Australian officials do what they need to do!
However.... which university, and do they have a campus in Singapore? Or even Malaysia (a couple of Melbourne-based unis have campuses in KL). You may be able to get part 1 (or the 3 part step) done through them... When I had my recent degree awarded, I was told that there was someone on campus who could do a DFAT authentication - which he did (although, I haven't tested it yet... it looks more like a Certified copy, rather than Authenticated copy).
Secondly, do you have any friends back in Australia who can do the leg work for you if necessary? I had a friend do everything for me back in Brisbane (but, that was for the Criminal Record check, so that made it easier).
have you emailed the university (or even looked on their website) to see if they offer an authentication service? Even if they do, You'd still need to get a Chinese consulate to do their bit.. and that's something that may need to be done back in Aus too... but, as per the above, if you can get a friend to do that for you, it will be easier.
Trust me - it's relatively easy and pain-free... and I found the Chinese consulate side of things the most annoying!

Appreciate the reply!
It's from monash university in Melbourne. They do have campuses in Singapore but it's sort of like a partnership kind of thing so I'm not sure if that'll will work.
I do have a friend in australia but they're not based in melbourne but in WA. Will they still be able to help with getting the documents authenticated there? and that would mean I have to send my passport to them?
appreciate your advice on this! I'm a little lost on the next step now and be great to get all the advice i can get. Thank you!

I thought Monash had a full campus in Singapore... oh well, that's probably not going to be the option for you then.
I did my first Master's through them as well (I still use their library for research), but that was done before the days of authentications being required, so I didn't get it done. I did, however, take a look at this last year...
IIRC, I'm pretty sure Monash offers an authentication service, but this may only be relevant for newly graduated degrees... how long ago did you finish?
By looking at this site, the Chinese embassy has made things difficult! (wow - what a surprise!) http://au.china-embassy.org/eng/ls/Authentication/
What this means is - you should contact Monash (via email) to see if they do an authentication or a notorisation... if it's notorised, then you can get teh document mailed to your friend in WA, and they can get the local DFAT to authenticate - and then the Perth Chinese consulate can do their bit.
If, however, Monash authenticates the degree, then it's going to suck!
(note also - that even though the website for the Chinese consulate is in Australia, their English still sucks!! And, sucks in such a way as to make things slightly confusing!!! Also note that if your friend is going to do the deeds for you, then the Chinese want to see their passport! WTF is that about???)

thanks for your help! contacted Monash, they'll only certify the documents issued are true copies and can provide a letter stating that completed the studies with them and was awarded the testamur etc. basically like a reference letter
thanks for the heads up on the website for the chinese embassy. I get what you mean with it being confusing!! I've got to re-read it many times just to make sure I got it but even then...
my friend's helping with the legwork so everything will be done in WA. From the notary public, to DFAT and the chinese consulate! hopefully it works without a hitch this time
thanks again!
