I got invited to go to KTV (it's karaoke, right?) but the problem is my left sock sings better than I do. It's a great opportunity to meet new people as I feel a bit alone since I arrived a few weeks ago, but I'm scared I might give a bad impression because of my nonexistent singing skills. Will I humiliate myself if I go?

I have never heard a good singer at KTV so go!
It is about drinking, flirting and having fun.
No one will laugh at u even u r a bad singer. Just enjoy it, everyone will clap for u~ and if u really don't want to sing it's alright, just have a bier and talk with friends.
Thank you for reassuring me Wenna7. I'll go, see how it goes and I'll give it a shot! *crosses fingers that everything goes well*
I have the opposite problem. I am a professional singer and I LOVE KTV... but no one will invite me along because they think I do not want to hear the 'bad' singers.. or they feel embarrassed to sing after me which is silly since I have never been the type of person to flaunt the skills or make other people feel bad about their talent (or lack). It's all fun to me... Come to Chengdu and go singing with me!!!
Haha SciFiBri I have to admit, I don't know the singing level of the people I'll be going to KTV with, but I really hope they're not pro singers! I totally understand them being embarrassed, I can say for myself that it wouldn't be your fault, but totally mine for not being on par with your level!
I'm a rotten singer and I still love going to KTV cos I just get hammered, dance on the little tables they have there and hit on the cute waitrii (plural).
You'll be sure to have fun, just don't take it too seriously. The Chinese are pretty obsessed with KTV, but the bottom line is the do it just for a laugh, not because they think they're great singers. Some of them are dire in fact, so just clap and pray they don't hog the mic!
