Q: Good off the beaten path things to do in Shanghai?

So I'm spending a few days in Shanghai over the Dragon Boat Holiday, and was just asking for advice regarding things to see and do that aren't neccesarily The Bund, the skyline, French Concession etc. I've heard they have a good science museum, but what else is worth seeing? Does Shanghai have it's own equivalent of Beijing's Hutongs?

I hear Shanghai has a pretty awesome canal area/old town that's worth checking out. Where it is I have no idea though, sorry.

Nessquick:

I guess is zhujiajiao area, not sure if name is correct, or the place itself

I'm not sure if it's "off the beaten path" as such, but I've heard the China Art Museum and Expo Museum are pretty awesome, if you're into that kind of thing.

i know it is a bit late with this reply. There was a Museum of Propaganda Art i visited in Shanghai - the most unusual one i visited

Rin:

I enjoyed that. Also the Jewish refuge area was interesting. It's a little known fact that China opened it's doors to thousands of refugees in WW2 while the rest of the world turned a blind eye.
