For those not using VPN's, I was wondering, has Google been working for the past few days? I've used it sort of casually for the most part of the year, but for the last 2 days Google hasn't even opened up once. I wonder what's going on with that?
Grrr!
Google itself is its usual slow self but Gmail is molasses going uphill in a February blizzard
It depends a lot on your Internet provider, but overall, it works *slowly*, with some days worse than other. The slowness is not due to Google itself : accessing Google from a VPN is way faster and consistent.
CCP says: Use Baidu. It's much faster.
RiriRiri:
Too bad Baidu is only relevant for 2 things: pirated streaming and buying stuff.
People, take this as an opportunity to quit the evil grasp of Google. Alternatives exist.
xunliang:
Wish I could upvote RiriRiri. That's about all I use Baidu for.
jetfire9000:
Baidu is relevant for porn searching. Seriously, try it... looking on other search engines it won't pop up, but a lot of unblocked stuff comes up on baidu, lollll.
Try different country domains, not dot com. It routes to .com.hk where I am, and that's basically Baidu crap in a google jacket. You won't find what you want, only ads.
right now? Not working or too slow if I have time to wait. But echinacities work. Last few days, it was awful slow. It is like as if someone is monitoring.. Shit shit shit. Gmail is even worst to use these days. Sometimes I have to hit several times to send an email and I get reply that I sent more than once.
Not working for me either, past 2 days! So frustrating trying to do work and it's just denying me access! What the hell's going on? This governmental monitoring is laughable.
https://duckduckgo.com is an ethical replacement for Google, not as shiny but unmonitored and uncrippled (yet). Use it, people.
Scandinavian:
I entered "porn" and it gave me ONE result. seems pretty restricted to me.
I am mostly on VPN, so Google is behaving. I typically don't use the interwebs for anything if I cannot get a VPN connection.
I'm in Anhui province and Gmail has become stop start and mostly stop. You get in 1 in 10 times but sometimes it dies after a while anyway. I gotta blitz it when I first get in.
Google search is OK but here's a trick that works when normal website address won't - use the direct IP address
http://74.125.200.160/ (there are other addys too)
bang - instant google, doesn't help gmail however
I am also having trouble with google as well,I also use a VPN astrill.I cant get on to youtube or facebook.saturday and sunday i had no trouble.
Hotwater:
I use the same and two days ago was having great difficulties getting on any of my usual blocked sites
I found article on BBC with title
china cleans message apps的新闻搜索结果
However, I can't open it (no VPN).
Maybe that's the reason last two days Google doesn't boot.

WeChat and other messaging apps forced to ‘clean up’ as China’s latest web crackdown continues
China’s web crackdown in the past couple of months has been wide-ranging, extending from pornography to the spread of online rumors. The latest attempt at enforcing web standards is focusing on popular mobile messaging apps like WeChat. State news agency Xinhua reports today that seven web companies with messaging services have agreed to take part in a month-long campaign to clamp down on “illegal and harmful information” inside these apps. That means deleting content related to rumors, prostitution, fraud, and black market items – but it could also apply to words of dissent. This comes in the run-up to the 25th anniversary of Tiananmen on June 4. Xinhua adds that WeChat public accounts will be targeted. These are effectively blogs inside the messaging app that people subscribe to for interesting content, and they’re used by an array of brands, media, and celebrities. But authorities are worried that these WeChat public accounts are used to disseminate illegal – or dissenting – content.

See: WeChat grows to 396 million active users We’ve contacted Tencent (HKG:0700) , the maker of WeChat, and will update if the company responds. This new crackdown on messaging apps also includes Xiaomi (which makes MiTalk), China Telecom’s Yixin, and the flirty app Momo. In April, Xinhua condemned Momo for enabling online prostitution. This latest “campaign to eliminate malpractice on instant messaging services” is run by the State Internet Information Office (SIIO).

last few month i shall use only google.cz to use google. anything else is going to blank page
I normally use my veepeennnn...which has been having problems a couple of days ago. Got home from work tonight and my wife (who is loyal to the wondrous CCP) and doesn't use one) told me she couldn't get on goog! Seems a lot more blocking going on at the moment. Maybe to stop rumours of things happening outside China that may look different from the outside.
for some reason news web-sites i regularly used and were blocked for a few weeks are now working again.
Google has been hit and miss
Hotwater:
Thanks for that icnif......they must have served there time at the Grauniad!
Very intermittent and sometimes I have to use the VPN. Strange also that about three or four days ago, I couldn't even open some sports websites like Cricinfo without the VPN, though there seems to be no problem now.
The VPN has also been regularly cutting out.
It's that time of year.
4th of June is my daughter's birthday.
Can’t they just bock Google search and leave my Gmail alone? Actually the only search that seems to work is Bing. It kind of makes you wonder how deeply involved MSFT is with the Chinese government.
I can't even check the weather, yeah google is terrible these past 2 weeks
Try this:
Start => Run => cmd.exe
nslookup mail.google.com
Copy IP address and visit: http://173.194.43.54/mail/
nslookup googlemail.l.google.com
Copy IP address and visit: http://74.125.226.53/mail/
74.125.226.* is Google's IP block. Try visiting those sites and adding /mail/ to the end of the URL.
If that doesn't work, I strongly suggest getting a VPN.

Both links are 'lightning' fast. Even parts of Gmail load fast! Thanks a brazillion! I pasted one of the links to Safari homepage, and now Safari opens fast with my email.Add-it: unfortunately, links worked only 1st time. Now, it doesn't boot again.
icnif77:
It worked only at the first try on both links. Now, GOOG is completely blocked!
I've been on FB this morning looking at photos of Cats & stupid meme's (seems not much happens on their nowadays) and had no problems with it on my vpn.......but can't access Goog! Strange things happening on t'intenet at the moment.
GOOG is completely dead today! Nothing works! Once, I had success with 'google.com.ca', not last few days. GOOGNews is available only in Chinese.

Google inundated with 'right to be forgotten' requests
not only google, but also everything that is connected through google (alot) causes problems for me. I have massive problems with disconnects since last week....
