Grammar problem, help!!! The only well-known brands not on the list are Jaguar-Land Rover, Subaru, Volvo and Hyundai, although Hyundai is the parent of Kia, which does build in Mexico. In this sentence, the word" which" represents Hyundai or Kia? It sounds to me it saies in the sentence that Hyundai builds cars in Mexico, not Kia. But in the context below, it saies Kia builds the cars in Mexico. I am confused now. Did thr news writer made grammar mistake or I am wrong? Please help to correct it. Quoted from this article: Guess who makes cars in Mexico: Not just the three automakers Donald Trump has called out for the practice (so far), but just about every big automaker. Is Trump going to go after them all? Quite possibly.Trump has now targeted Ford (F), General Motors (GM) and Toyota (TM) for building cars south of the border, or planning to. But those automakers aren’t unusual; they’re basically following industry practice. Here’s the full alphabetized list of automakers that build cars in Mexico for sale in the United States, with examples of the cars imported from there:Fiat Chrysler (Dodge Journey, Fiat 500)Ford (Fusion)GM (Chevrolet Trax, Cadillac SRX)Honda (Fit)Kia (Forte)Mazda (Mazda 2)Nissan (Sentra, Versa)Volkswagen (Beetle, Golf, Jetta)And here are the carmakers planning to start producing cars in Mexico soon:BMW (production due to begin in 2019)Mercedes (production due to begin in 2018, in joint venture with Nissan)Toyota (Corolla, beginning in 2019)These two lists represent nearly every big automaker in the world, and most of them pursue the same strategy: building their lowest-margin vehicles in Mexico, to ensure the profitability of small cars they can only charge so much for. The only well-known brands not on the list are Jaguar-Land Rover, Subaru, Volvo and Hyundai, although Hyundai is the parent of Kia, which does build in Mexico.
Help
Hotwater:
Stop bumping your own bloody posts! They'll get answered eventually! Chinese people have no patience!
philbravery:
Give the girl a break . probably the best question of the week
Hotwater:
It's a decent question but she's impatient! No one else bumps thier own questions.

Yo, bro. That's a racist stereotype saying chinese have no patience. You need to apologise to a nation, my brother, for the sake of peace, love and universal harmony. Feel the love man. We are all brothers of mother earth.
That last sentence of your post,,, 'which' is referring to Hyundai. If the writer wanted to refer to Kia he would have said 'which is built'.
Hi Vicky. "Which" refers to KIA.
The only well-known brands not on the list are Jaguar-Land Rover, Subaru, Volvo and Hyundai...
Hyundai does not build in Mexico.
...although Hyundai is the parent of Kia, which does build in Mexico.
Kia (a company owned by Hyundai) does build in Mexico.
"Which" refers to the item directly before it (in this case, Kia).
If it referred to Hyundai, the sentence would say "Hyundai, which does build in Mexico, is the parent company of Kia". As you said, that wouldn't make sense, because the report states that Hyundai does not build in Mexico.
Viki87:
Thanks, but I got several answers. Some other says "which" refers to Hyundai and you says "which" refers to Kia. Really don't know to take which advice.

Fkn hilarious that (before I started hitting thumbs) this was the lowest rated - and yet was the only correct answer!
Why this doesn't 'work' so well? Is it because buttocks are moving?
It might be my new ava-tits-tar, but it's not displayed? W-HH-ai?
In this particular case, the 'which' in question refers to Kia, as Samsara explained quite correctly. Normally (and I don't know why you'd even think otherwise). relative pronouns refer to the most recent noun.
And, as Samsara also said, if Hyundai was meant to be the referent, then the sentence would read exactly has he illustrated - "Hyundai, which is the parent of Kia, does build in Mexico". - the placement of the punctuation is important here!!
