I PM you, if you use the guy he arranges for a van to river, I went once with my GF on bus (he warned me) lost my phone. I used van before.

Take river cruise on bamboo boat not the big boats, I think early morning is best time, cooler and there is mist over mountains.

thanks guy..  I did suspect you knew somebody there....I don't .. thanks a lot

TedDBayer:

he usually takes bigger groups, he got me a guide for Yangshou, she got me a better rate on scooters and motorcyles and I toured rural for 3 days.

Don't go to Shangra La, it's new tourist trap, not very good, I didn't enjoy caves because the stairs were often dangerous.

I watched the yangshou improv show from a mountian, could see evrything but not details.

You don't need to book for Yangshou. If you do you are paying over the odds.

Just turn up at Guillin and do a deal with the touts. Contrary to what the travel guides say  it's not actually cheaper to go to the bus station to get a local bus. It's the same bus. You walk all the way to the bus station then the bus stops at the train station on its way.

Same in Yangshou. Go to the bus station and let the touts put you on a bus to Xingping.

It's a great place to visit. When are you going?  I am tempted to pop up if you fancy meeting for a beer wink

july 22-25  .. I'll be there

and I like the odd beer

BTW, I've always loved Guilin, usually I feel so happy there, something that I only get there, except when someone actually tries to run me over or I smell sh;t. Then I wish I had a gun, self defence. A bus really almost got me, with cars it's been shear luck I'm alive.

Yahooooooo...

Tickets are bought.... me, the wife and toddler are going up Tuesday.

I want to stay at a little guest house across the river from Xinping. No cars, dirt roads and a little shop with cold beer in a fridge.......wink

Thanks for the inspiration to take a holiday and get out there BHgal .

It was a pleasure to meet up with you in Yangshou tonight BHGAL.

The wumao attack we planned  will without doubt bring us great wealth.  Such careful planning over so many cups of tea.....

It's amazing that we have had the same commander all this time without knowing it.  Yup... we were both recruited to the cause by women from the same home town.

Ha ha. It was a fun night tonight. I will be down your way for a much anticipated wedding at new year (1st Jan).   We can drink some more teaindecision.

I am confident that vast community of Chinese will pay us well for many inciteful notes. Damned tea has somehow helped me to forget some of the details but I am confident in the general plan.

It is truly amazing how the Chinese manipulate, the world thinking. Just train and send a bunch of girls from town X or Y  or Z and we got “em.... brilliant....

I do wish you happiness in your impending inauguration into the wonderful world of us wumao’s and wish you success in both the part time world of parenting and female domination. And of course the ever changing and very lucrative morning thru evening pastime of  experimenting with the vast varieties of “TEA” available at most every street

corner.

Look forward to trying another “tea leaf” with you soon. Don’t forget to bring the recruiter, I am chained to mine already.
