You beat me to it.  Some companies will allow their female employees to have half the day off, or even the whole day but that's rare.  Our company gives them half the day off and gave them a 50 kuai Carrefour card.

there was a big sale on washing machines on Taobao

MissA:

Ahhh, the irony. I had a wonderful conversation with my partner a few weeks ago around Valentines Day (which he forgets yearly - actually not so much forgets but doesn't give a shit about).

MissA: no, I don't want a vacuum cleaner as a present. Anyone who bought me a vacuum as a present would find it jammed somewhere very uncomfortable.

BF: WTF? You were happy when I got you an espresso machine!

MissA: I like coffee. I hate vaccuming.

BF: so, theoretically, an iron would be out of order as well?

MissA: it would closely follow the vacuum.

BF: But you want kitchen stuff!

MissA: I like cooking. If I didn't like cooking, then kitchen stuff wouldn't be appropriate.

BF: You're  all crazy. How am I meant to know what to get you?

MissA: Perfume. Easy.

Whitegoods would fall into the same category as the iron and vacuum.

I didn't think this holiday was that big a deal in China.  But there were definitely more people out and about last night.  Traffic out the ying yang, long lines at the supermarket, people people people....almost felt like a national holiday, except the part where I still needed to work

School got out early and they had half price at some of the stores at the shopping mall. Also, saw some small festivities going around the city!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
