Q: Hard for Chinese to find jobs abroad?

We always talk about us coming here...but frankly I'm thinking of leaving China and going back with my Chinese girlfriend...how hard is it for them to find jobs back home?

We already have trouble ourselves, but are there lots of Chinese companies over there (North America) - is the demand high for English-speaking Chinese?

It depends on her skill set, just speaking Chinese is not enough for most companies, even Chinese run firms. There are plenty of overseas Chinese already in the states, I assume Canada is the same and in Mexico you must speak spanish.

Like most Western countries it depends on her level of English. If she can speak fluently then there shouldn't be a problem getting a job, just don't expect that she will walk into a high level position straight away.

If she is a Uni grad then things might be a little easier, I would recommend she starts with some part-time work to get experience and maybe offer some ads in the local newspapers/gumtree/craigslist/etc as a Chinese teacher/tutor as more and more foreigners are looking to learn Chinese, she should be able to make $15-$20/hr do that.

Remember there are tons of immigrants in the States and they have all had to work their way up. Same for laowai in China, I started out as a teacher making 5k a month for 25hrs a week, 3 years later I still teach but it's part-time 10hrs a week and make more than double that, plus I do other business on the side to bump that up even further. Take time and be paitient

Lastly, Good Luck!

Hey Man, my wife can't legally work yet, and it will take some time for her papers to be processed, but she's made tons of contacts already. I think it depends where you live. If it's a place with lots of Chinese the chances are better.

put about 5 - 10g away for her to get job training (about 5 -10  months) after that they will hook her up with a job. but check with your home country on things such as will they honor her chinese degrees . worst case scenario she might have to take the ged exam and go back to school.

I totally agree with hiddenjelly,it all depends on her English.

If she's open minded and can speak Fluent English especially Oral English.

Should not be an issue to find a job, just don't expect a high income job at the beginning,it takes time.

one of my friend's wife has a problem to find a job in the US at the beginning, Cause she's so conservative and couldn't speak fluent English.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
