Q: Has anyone attempted to use bitcoins to move money out of China?

Is it possible ( and easy enough ) to convert RMB to bitcoin, then reconvert it elsewhere?

Any ideas, help, would be much appreciated.

Just this week the People's Bank of China -- the Chinese central bank -- placed trading and exchange in bitcoins off limits to Chinese nationals.  It made all the front pages of the newspapers.

Now I wonder how that will translate into reality.

There are other ways (legal, too)  depending on your circumstances  a) how much money?  tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands?  b) It's a one time thing (ie. you want your savings out of China, not moving substantial amounts out on a regular basis)  c) your geographic location in China d) your visa type in China (tourist, business, resident permit?)
