Q: Has anyone been to Changde?

Ok so I have been in China for less than a month and this is my first visit. I live in Changsha and it is taking some getting used to, to say the least. Very recently my new employer has asked me if I would like some extra work working weekends at a training school in Changde. I would like to know what it is like there. Below is why and a bit of a dilemma:

The money offered is quite good for two days work and I have also been told that they will cover the cost of the train tickets and hotel accommodation.

I am very tempted to say yes, however I worry that I would be taking on too much too soon. I would not have any time off unless of course it were a national holiday like the one we are in now. But the extra money on top of my current salary would enable me to live a very comfortable lifestyle (aside from the feeling of being overworked).

My employer has been very kind to me since I started working for them, and has also told me that I do not have to take it if I do not want to. I did express interest in doing some extra work not long ago, but I thing the great language barrier might have caused my words to get "lost in translation" (Yes I am aware that is a film and based in Japan not China).

So number one: What is Changde like?

Number two: Opinions on taking the extra job?

I don't know personally what it's like. I have met people from Changde that came to Beijing for training in a company I was to take part in. From what I heard it was the opposite to Beijing. Many trees and a cleaner environment. I say go for it! You don't have anything to lose it's experience that you will be gaining! Nothing to lose!

Yes I have heard it is quite beautiful there, and cleaner to.

From what I've heard, it's a nice place. Try it out and add it to your experience. What's more, tell your employers that you truly value your rest days but do not mind hoping them out by taking the extra work. I'm sure that you will be loved even more.....
