Q: Has Your Asian other tryed to change their Race?

I was watching a program about Asian people and plastic surgery trying to be more western   looking . I felt so bad for some of these people specily the 17 year old Vietnamese girl who's parents pushed her to change her Face. I could understand if it was to fix a problem like a deformity or repair work for injured people  , but why do they feel so insecure that they need to do this to themselves ?,maybe we are partly to blame with our advertising targeting the white tall blond instead of a more wider market?    Has your partner talked about making these kind of changes if you want to see the program search out Change my Race on SBS television Australia. edit: I was really taken back by this program and hope people thinking about this option get the support they need before going through with it

OMG, they would change their race, really? never heard of it

philbravery:

you really need to watch the program to understand some of the feelings of these people are going through. some were born in western country's speak with that country's accent ,but still look Asian so they feel like outsiders , really sad they are to feel this way

No, but sometime the "double eye lid" surgery has been brought up. And that is a change away from being Asian as mostly it is non-Asians that have that eye lid feature.

My current flavor-of-the-month, this really luscious bodybuilder type but with brains, asked me if I thought that he should get circumsized so as to be more Western.

I won't tell you my answer...no in this installment anyway....

I don't think I missed the point, Phil. they have the self identity problem because they immigrated. wait it's their parents or great parents immigrated and thus this young generation is born and bred in Australia. I'm sorry I didn't watch the video . I assume these girls who wish a race change are teenage or twenty something , and probably never lived in Vietnam ?
so my question for your question :did their parents/great parents who took the action that moved from Vietnam to Australia have self identity problems also ? And compare these problems in Australia to the life condition back in Vietnam , they still chose Australia didn't they ?
I'm Chinese. I think I can relate to such girls' situation without much difficulty. whilst laws rule that job/education/welfare opportunity is equal to every australian regardless of their race background, I wonder that whether some folks still have a race preference. and my guess is yes .

so what did these teen Vietnamese australian girls have gone through ? maybe they liked white australian guys but was refused for their race ? maybe they want to fit in but only to find they feel awkward ?
I believe the situations their male counter parts have are more critical than theirs. so please have some compassion for guys too instead of focusing on girls only ?

philbravery:

the program didn't single out teenage Vietnamese girls it also talks about Korea and China and both male and female. the host is Eurasian (Chinese Dad and Western Mother ) She says in the program as she looks in a mirror that she is Australian but see's the face of China ,  you really should take the time to watch it
