I'm a big fan of the guzheng and the players make it look so easy. I have a feeling that it would take years of hard work to actually be able to play it properly though. Any experienced musicians out there who can play a Chinese instrument? I have yet to meet one foreigner who can.

Yes!
No.
The guzheng is quite an instrument, like a guitar with 19 strings. Or 21. I 'played' one a few times but I must agree with you. It seems it would take a least a year to be any good. A guzheng would be wasted on me cuz I would rig a few humbuckers on and try that. That's probably a crime, and I don't think it would sound good. I met a guy who played the erhu, but, yea, two strings.
