Q: Have you been on Chinese TV?

This idea is brought up from the recent This American Life episode.  Have you been on TV or been interviewed for something?  Or a friend?

I have been interviewed for TV, although I doubt it made it to air.  It was my first month in China and I spoke about 0 Chinese (only marginally better now...).  A lady with TV crew stopped me in the supermarket and asked me in very broken English how I would spend Spring Festival (it was around that time of year).  I basically told her I had no plans, she looked very confused.  Me being in China for only 1 month, I really had no idea.

Another friend of mine made a radio ad for his school, he worked for a preschool and the whole ad is him saying "I'm American and I Love Babies!" in broken Chinese.

As it happens I was asked to go on a game show last weekend but I turned it down because it didn't offer much worth winning. Otherwise I was on something on CCTV ten years ago in Yangshuo. Just buying stuff off a lady we called 'The Banana Lady' and I started larking around so they used it. Another time I was asked to play the sax for some school thing. I thought it would be in a sports hall in front of a few hundred but it turned out to be in the town square in front of 17,000 people and the local news network. I played 'Strangers on the Shore' but cut it a little short as I was nervous. Maybe Andy Warhol was right, one day we'll all get fifteen minutes of fame.

In 2010 before the Expo, I was in a commercial for KunShan yacht club or something like that.

I made 500 RMB on it including all I could drink and had a fun evening.

I don't know if it made it on air, but I would appreciate if anyone could find it.

Yes I have last year. I was working for an online company and they asked me to do this acting thing. At first I was wondering how big it was. I said yes because I wasn't doing much at the time and I always like to get the experience. So when I got there the place was huge they had a stage and everything. I had to remember some lines, simple lines in English and I also got interviewed.
Originally they told me I wouldn't get paid well the person that introduced me to that part but in the end they did give me a chunk of money for being apart of what they were doing which was launching a website. And this was the phase where they invite reporters and other important people that will have a say so in if they approve it or not. Apparently is was big it was part of the childrens television network and they had the high ranking government official there. You do know that they run things here in China. They had military guards there it was something else. Now I will forever be on the internet as my life on a chinese t.v. network.

Too many times to even think about. The classic examples are when I am asked to pose as a foreigner buyer coming here to do business. A quick shake of hands with some guy that I have never seen before in my life, exchange of contracts with absolutely nothing written on them, the inevitable group photo with local government boys along for the free lunch and publicity then everyone goes home happy.
