Q: Have you ever been in a physical altercation (FIGHT) with a local?

I am a little bored so I thought some people here could post some of the times things just went just went TERRIBLY wrong and you got into a fight with a local and how it turned it (most likely with a lynch crowd on you unless you got out of there fast).

I have traded many stories with foreigners from my time in China and some of them were astounding for example the time three guys and woman bum rushed an American in his apartment because the pipes were leaking. He beat all three up (the woman ran away) and the cops accused him of being a professional boxer.

Or the time when some little 100 pound guy told my wife to "BE QUIET" when she was clearly upset at a movies theatre (during a issues about the tickets) so I got mad and got in hisi face. A security guard grabbed my arm, and I told him to not touch me and pushed him across the room. He came back with 10 guards and they all just stared at me while the one guard accused me of beating him. I am 6 foot 220 pounds and the security was 120 pounds...  I said if I had beat him he would NOT be still standing he would be in a hospital or unconscious.

I purposely pushed him and NOT hit him because I knew if I did, he would be seriously hurt and he didn't deserve it... The guy was floating in his uniform for god sakes (just a little guy). But him outright lying like that really got me mad and I was prepared to take on the entire group when they came and starting slinging those accusations. I was in the military and these guys realized their gang intimidation techniques... of looking at me like they were going to rush me down... didn't scare me one bit.

So instead they looked at the camera footage and nothing happened. Close call, but nada.

Although, a guy I know went on a drinking binge with some Chinese buddies. And you know what happens... TIME TO GET THE FOREIGNER DRUNK. And that they did. They were in a hotel and he knew he was getting hammered bad and told them he was going outside for some air.

Anyway... a hotel staff member ran to the Chinese businessmen and told them to come outside. It seems my foreign buddy was in a fist fight with 4 officers while 5 cops lay unconscious on the ground. The Chinese businessmen told the cops he was drunk and was he was with them. They gave the cops some expensive cigarettes and told them to take off.

The guy woke up the next morning with a bad hangover, bruised knuckles and seriously confused. He still doesn't know how the fight started.

So what's your story? Have you personally come to blows with a local or came to a close call?

Yes, with my girlfriend’s ex-husband. Even though they have been divorced for 3 years he still felt that he could run her life. No one got hurt, but very stressful. He has since apologized and accepted me ( I think)
I guess I will know for sure when he is asked to take care of his daughter while we go to Guangzhou to get Marriageability certificate signed. My girlfriend is waiting until the last minute to ask him so even though she pretends to not worry about it, I can tell she is a little concerned

I never beat anybody in my life, but here I fantasize about it every day. It helps to keep me sane.

Closest call? About 1 month ago. I had 4 scum bags in a beat old Honda Accord playing chicken with me on a secondary road on the purpose to try having me hitting them on purpose (and claim the damage).

I tried to escape (I'm a fast driver) and almost managed to do it, but I had to stop at a cross light. They kept on chasing me, and we end up playing the same game at 130kmh, which begun to be a bit, let's say......bothersome. I ended up with them stopping their car in front of me, across the road. I stopped about 20 meters from them. Then one of the fothermuckers got out of the car and came to me asking me to get out of the car saying I did hit them and broke their (already broken) rearview mirror (of course no contact whatsoever).

I'm 6ft3 and 220 pound, quite fit and the guy was 5ft, 100.

I've seriously been tempted to get out, play scared for a sec to distract him and whack him as bad as I could (and I was in a huge adrenaline rush...).

Then I thought: "Don't be stupid, there are another 3 assholes in the car, they might run away if you get one down, they might not. They might carry a knife. Don't look for troubles, think about your wife and the baby, think you're here to work, think you're working for a multinational public company and this shit is not going to do you any favor if it turns bad, think it's not going to last forever, just leave it...."

So I did. I pulled the window down, I didn't get out of the car, I told the guy "no problem, I'm going to call the police and when they come we assess the situation", I took note of the plate number and I called my wife.

The scumbag got disoriented, he kicked my front bumper got back in the car and off they went...... just to wait for me again 500 meters down the road.....

Again......

But this time I manage to evade and run, as we were entering a village near the place where I live.

I swear, if I had to follow my heart instead of my mind, that guy wouldn't probably be walking again for the rest of his life.

Robk:

WTH, this sounds like that movie with the damn beat up semi-truck that follows the guy because he honked at the semi driver and passed him... you know the one?

It's a bit old but this totally reminds me of that movie... at the end the semi drives off a cliff... maybe you should of tried to get them to do that lol.

I would never, ever get in a fight with a local.  In the end, I would be the one to suffer and it might ruin my make-up and muss my bouffant hair-do.  Finally, I would loose a good pair of Charles Jourdan six-inch spiked heels shoes because well...

I have had two physical altercations in China. I was in the Army for 20 years and have had my share of brawls in the past, but I like to think I have mellowed with age. The first was at my favorite Xinjiang restaurant. A drunk Xinjiang fellow came in and was loudly causing a disturbance. He then left, went across the street stole a bottle of wine from the store and came back followed by the store clerk. I thought the restaurant's owner knew the guy, but my girlfriend said the owner told the clerk he didn't know him. The restaurant was about 2/3 full of Chinese, but only this guy and the staff were Xinjiang people.

Then this asshole turned his attention to my girlfriend making rude comments although I didn't know it just yet. He then walked over to our table, shoved my 17 year old son and swiped the food off the table and to the floor. I lost it! I punched him squarely in the nose, put him face down on the floor, picked him up with his arm behind his back and used his face to open the door as I threw him out of the restaurant. No one came to his defense except my girl friend (she said she was afraid I was gonna kill him). The owner comped the meal and rushed us out the back of the restaurant before the police arrived.

The second incident was actually comical, although no blows were actually exchanged. I had a guy pull his car crossways in front of mine and get out with one of those collapsible metal clubs.  He was obviously angry about something though I still don't know why. I attempted to get out of my car but my girl friend grabbed my jacket to prevent it. I hit the down button on my window and he stuck his club through the open window, so I snatched it away from him. Then I was able to get out as he ran to his car and sped away.

Robk:

Hahaha....

"Oh no, he's got my weapon! I better get out of here~! Cause I am pussy without that damn club!"

Some time ago, while walking with my Chinese wife some drunk came stumbling our way. As he got closer I realized that he was really 'gunning' for me. Sure enough he began yelling at me for having a Chinese woman with me and at her for being a 'slut' to be with  a lao wai. We crossed the street to avoid him, but he followed us. Finally, he was close enough to get into my face. What he did not realize was the fact that there were 2 traffic cops nearby; they both were watching the 3 of us.

So, I let the guy take a swing at me and I punched him into the stomach hard enough to lose his breath for  short while. The cops did nothing except laugh and one gave me the 'thumbs up' sign, then both turned away... like 'we never saw anything'.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
