Q: Have you noticed how common it is to see people being sick in public?

Took the bus to work this morning and had some random middle aged woman start vomiting at my people. People dispersed as if SARS had been detected and then began pretending nothing was going on while the woman kept retching.

I've honestly seen this happen at pretty much any time of the day, in various cities, from all kinds of people. Some just stop their cars, someone stumbles out and lets it rip.

I just pray it never happens to me. A laowai vomiting in public would probably gather quite the crowd.

Car sickness seems to be very common. I think back home we don't experience it because we are used to cars. When I traveled with some of my students, they would get extremely car sick, and after a half hour bus ride, one of them puked after getting off the bus. At least she made it off. I mean, have you seen how the people drive there? Even I would get a little car sick sometimes because they insist on keeping the windows closed.

Yes I've seen people vomiting in so many embarrasing situations and places. In my opinion anything becomes so usual to see in China outside in the streets, the more you go out the more you see.

I think the size of population in China maximizes the chances for all of us to see things we rarely see in our countries or simply in other countries, name it and you'll find it outside.

I find that utterly bizarre. I've been here for years and traveled all over the country and can honestly say i've never seen anybody vomit in the street. Maybe i'm just lucky. It does remind me though, when I was younger I was a motorcycle despatch rider and for the first two to three years I saw motorcycle accident scenes literally every week. And it always made me slow down and ride more carefully. Then after three years I stopped seeing them. Probably saw one every three months. Made no sense. All I could think was that i'd been 'meant' to see them as a lesson; to help me ride more safely. Then later when I could ride better I didn't need to see them so much.

So why would you 'need' to see these people hurling everywhere? Hmmmmmmm. Beats the shit out of me.

I once was next to a guy who had chicken pox in a super crowded bus. When I pointed him to my BF, who has never had chicken pox before, he literally jumped out of the bus dragging me behind him. So, I wondered about it as well. Why those people have no consideration for others?

The same with a lot of students who come to class with terrible coughs, cold or fever...I mean, stay home for a while and take some medicine!
