Q: Hernia Repair guangdong?

Hi,I have an inguinall hernia that requires an operation. I am living in guangdong. I am looking for a decent hospital / clinic that can do the said operation but is not going charge me an over ehorbitant price. I was quoted in excess of 40,000 rmb by one hospital in guangzhou. The same operation would cost half that in UK. (Not sure if the doctors saw the white skin and trebled the price as a result). Also can one haggle / barter when it comes to the price of an operation? ,

With the problem of quality anything in China, I'd say at least go to Hong Kong for an operation... much less looking for a place where you can cheap out and haggle for a better price.

Even if not familiar with Guangzhou, so can not tell you a good hospital, I can tell you to ask for discount and see what you get. I had severe problems with my dentures as a result of "accidents" and cavities, so I had maybe 8 teeth left (no molars), and I decided to seek dentures.
I found to my surprise that implants were available, but when asked for a quote the average price was 6,000 Rmb per tooth implanted. I needed from 22 to 24, so that was out of question. I went to Hong Kong, and there average price was 8,000 HK dollars per tooth, one dentist even told me it was a little cheaper than at USA, but for that money I would have it done back home.

So, I did not give up, decided to really shop for prices and requests discounts. I found thru a friend who had one implant that she paid 2,000 Rmb for it, so requested dentist name and visited him. He was a nice guy, studied in USA, practices in China. He started the bargaining process at 4,000 Rmb per tooth implanted. I laughed and told him no way. He said to make him an offer, and I did, I told him I wanted 22 teeth implanted, and would pay no more than 17,000 Rmb. It took him a week, and I had to promise him not to reveal the price (so I can not say his name). But within two months I had all the work done, and he did a first class job, I am very happy with it.

I suggest you seek among your friends and aquaintances who have had a hernia operation recently, and ask where, if happ-y with results and cost. That may give you a soilid lead to persue further.

Just to suggest, u better go to the China government hospital rather than a private hospitals.
Go to the Internal Medicine department ( Nai ke ), and ask for the profesors one to assist u, if they cannot speak english, ask to the information which doctor have the assitant that speaks in english.

You have inguinal hernia in left or right ? did u do the CT scan? or MRI yet?

I got a hernia repaired in Guangzhou back in 05  or 06. They speak english there, they have  an expat floor of the  hospital. They charge you out the ass though. Its better just to go to a chinese hospital with a translator. Even at the expat portions of the large hospitals, its still non english speaking Chinese doctors that do the surgery.

BTW everyone said I was freaking crazy to get surgery in China. But as long as you use your own blood (donate it ahead of time) and foreign medicine its cool and cost efficient (much cheaper than the US). The operating rooms are sterile and the surgeons are just as good as the US.

I will never use another high paid, pompous, US doctor!

People often denigrate medicine in China while praising it in the West but not all is peaches and cream. About ten years ago, I was operated for the appendix. They had just given me the knockout stuff when I was jolted awake when I hear the Doc say to the nurse that this was a circumcision! I managed to babble "appendix!" before slipping into dreamland. Happily for me, the proper procedure was done, but if I hadn't managed to speak...Oi ve!!

I have used this hospital in the past and found it to be the best hospital in Guangzhou.  Were you referring to a private hospital?  The Guangzhou folk refer to this as the No. 2 Sun Yat-sen Hospital.

No. 2 Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, 107 Yanjiang West Road, Guangzhou 510120, P.R. China

If you are in Guangdong, you are much better off taking a 2 hour train to HK and having the operation there.  My friend had this operation done in Guangzhou at what is considered a very good hospital, and it was a complete nightmare.  They actually made him keep a 5 pound weight on the incision for a week.

Go to HK, it may cost a bit more, but your health is worth it.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
