Q: Hey fellow Chinese expats, anybody been to Krabi?

Thinking of going there during Spring Festival holidays.  Anyone been there before?

Or if not, where else do you recommend for a Thailand holiday?

How much do I need for ten days of medium level living?

Is it easy to changed RMB there?  Or what?

Haven't personally, but I know several who have been during the last year, both young and old. Only positive reviews.

Can't comment on the expense level, generally eating out is prety cheap in Thailand, but what a hotel costs in Krabi you must figure out yourself.

You can use UnionPay in the airport in Bangkok to get cash.

I went there years ago and it was nice, lots of really nice Islands in that area to visit and cool things to do.  What is it you are looking to do in TL? Beaches? jungle trekking? diving? cultural type stuff?

Changing money is easy and can be done anywhere but I don't know how much you'd need to take. Depends where you stay and what you want to eat every day. Thai food is cheap, steak dinners are not.

Hey, I have been, its way better than Phuket. Thats just me though, im not big on the Thai creepy nightlife and Krabi is pretty dead in that regard.

Air Asia flys there now and if the flights arent convenient for you then fly to phuket and take a boat.

Hotels are cheaper than in phuket but i cant really give you a budget price as there are many different levels. It all depends on you. When i go I stay at the sheraton. Very private, quiet and relaxing. 700rmb a night on average. Spring festival could be more but not if you booked now i guess.

Easy to change to rmb. Pretty much every ATM will work on any chinese union pay card. Fees arent high and the exchange rate is good. Shopping malls usually accept chinese cards as well.

The food is better too. Great cheaper seafood.

Thanks you men for the endorsement.  Will go forth and check it out.

Am aware Air Asia goes there, but via KL.   For me that's 2 stopovers.  Will try to find a more convenient route.

Some days my computer works ok, some days it doesn't.

Goodonyers.

Krabi's nice, as is most of southern Thailand. I's say the minimum you'll need is about 300RMB per person per day. 500 will give you a more comfy room and a few extras, 700+ and you'll feel like a king.

It's so far away from where we live.  Might as well go all the way to Aust.

Now we're checking out places that are more accessible for us..the Stans.  Kazakh, Uzbek, Tajik, Kyrgh, even Pak.

But are they accessible??  That's what we've gotta find out.

Guangzhou has direct cheap flights to Krabi by Air Asia btw. Thatll turn your flight from 2 stopovers to one....

Hows the "istan" search going? Did you choose a country yet?

royceH:

Yeah....have done stacks of reading up on the Stans and concluded that Uzbekistan is the one.  Even sourced a tour.  7 days from mid Feb.  Fired off an email and received an intelligent response the same day.  Since then I've checked out visa concerns and identified suitable hotels.

And there's a direct flight from our capital to theirs.  Tashkent.  Only just over 2 hrs.

So, everything seemed to be go until the lady disclosed this evening that she really doesn't want to go to Uzbekistan.  Or any of the other Stans.  Something about the culture of this whole region that she doesn't enjoy.  (She was born out here in what is, let's face it,  Central Asia)

What she desires is the beach.  And who can blame her for that?  Not me!

So, because I want to travel with her, Krabi is back on the drawing board.

I know Air Asia is cheap but I also have found out that China Southern now fly direct to Krabi from GZ.

Thanks for the tip Mike, we'll check it out.

And anyway, I'm thinking the beers will go down a lot easier as I lie on the beach and think about the minus 30 odd temperatures back here in KM.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
