Q: Hollywood movies adapted from Chinese stories?

My gut instinct tells me that the Hollywood machine must have adapted ideas/whole stories from China's "5000 years of unbroken glorious history" by now, but I can't think of any movies off the top of my head, and my Google searches are turning up nothing.

When I say "adaptations", I mean in the way that The Magnificent Seven was an adaptation of Rashomon (Japanese, granted); The departed was adapted from Infernal Affair, etc.

It would be surprising if there were no adaptations at all...

The Magnificent Seven was an adaptation of The Seven Samurai, not Roshomon. Seven Samurai, however, is (arguably) a reworking of The Seven Against Thebes by  Aeschylus in that you have seven men coming together to defend a city against an invading army. The difference is that the invading army is itself captained by by seven different men, the titular Seven Against Thebes, and the two pairs of seven are intended to be equal opposites, which is something that Seven Samurai doesn't really have.

Reservoir Dogs, it is said, was a 'rip off' of the movie City on Fire starring Chow Yun Fat, which came out five years earlier and was very similar in its premise of a robbery gone wrong and the undercover cop involved in it. Haven't seen it myself so I can't make a comparison, but i've seen Dogs about 5 times and expect to see it another 5 before i'm bored of it. If it's a rip off it was worth it.

There isn't much of a demand from Hollywood for Qing dynasty soap operas and the glorious will of the Chinese people single handedly defeating Japan in World War 2.

This is so ironic,

Hollywood is tired of losing money and high taxes in CA, so move movie production to a right to work state Georgia, push your blue state values on a red state, and threaten to leave over a social issue even though you want to make more money.

So I had planned to move to Dallas or Atlanta this summer, but if Hollyweird bails of out Fayetteville, Georgia, I might get a big house for half price within a year in a good neighborhood when all the movie workers, executives, actors leave. Now I want liberals to leave and pitch a fit, it's in my best interest. I used to make money reading the financial times and Barrons, now I just read the regular news and make money. What a fucked up world?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
