Q: How are stewardess selected in China?
Is it different from back home, or more rigorous due to competition?

Most jobs in China you need to be someone doing a job Chinese cant do. You need to prove you a expert and legally need a university degree. Some i hear get away with it. here are many fake teachers. Almost as many as there are fake I phones around, but the government is planing to clamp down on them.
The selection is very much like a beauty contest :
1) you must be pretty
2) you must have a nice smile
3) you must be cheap
4) if you have none of the "qualities" mentioned here above, then you a "connection".....
Western flight attendants: ugly, lazy. rude. I can deal with ugly but lazy and rude is what gets to me. Thank goodness Unions havent been adopted. Yet!
I'm sure having to put out is involved somewhere in the interview process.... 
YOU NEED TO HIRE AN AGENT OR RECURITMENT AGENCY for that kind of job.
You must know someone in the Government.
