Well it's China so knowing the right hands to shake and the right hands to pay can get anything done here. Actually I once had a company offer to send someone to go take the driving test for me. The more important question you have to ask yourself.... Why would anyone want to drive in this traffic?

Don't do it!! You could not pay me enough to drive in China...they drive NUTS here!! No rules, anything goes, and I mean anything!
Without a licence you would have to be INSANE!!

FYI...if you get into an accident, the westerner will always get blamed regardless...beware!!

Taxi's are cheap, and stress free.

Those saying don't drive here - listen to them. I suffer from road rage as a pedestrian!!!?? Go figure. And I am even worse on my bike daring Chinese drivers to hit me but I will admit they are the greatest avoidance drivers I have ever seen in action!

the test is really easy to pass, questions and answers are almost all the same. I read the questions three times before to take the exam and passed it at once without any mistake. Same for my wife, except she made one mistake...

Depends where you take the test
Smaller cities seam to have their own policy (how much$)
there was sample questions on echinacities last year .
some of them are funny and some dont make sence at all.
I have done enough driving in a truck in Australia so I dont miss it when Im in china.
Besides going on a bus in the city can be the best 30cent roller coaster meets dodgem car ride
in the world.

I got my licence because I wanted too! I have driven in many countries in all sorts of vehicles. I have found that my Chinese colleagues respect me more, as well as my University students. Driving on the roads is not easy, but when you understand their madness it is okay!! Maybe!! Puzzled

driving vehicle without driving license is a serious  illegal act, which would face a risk of being imposing on 2000 rmb and  less than 15 days detention.

if you  are in Qingdao, I would like to accompany with you to attend the traffic law and rule test as your translator.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
