Q: How can I tell if food is real or not?

How can I tell if food is real or not?  I'm sick and tired of hearing about this.  Do I just need to stop eating?

If you stop eating, you will have no worries. It is advisable to simultaneously stop drinking. Within a few days you'll notice a change in how you feel.

has the food you eat regularly made you ill?

if not, you may as well continue on as you have been doing as regards food.

Yes, there have been a few food related scandals recently, but by exercising common sense and not eating anything of too dubious an origin.

Locals are clued into the healthy places to eat so ask them.

Meat is the tricky part. You have pork colored to look like beef, you have duck meat flavored to taste like lamb, etc. We buy most meat in the big supermarkets, e.g. our local AEON, you can go point at half a pig and have them cut you a slice, difficult to fake. The animals in China are fed a lot of antibiotics, so no risk of getting infections if you eat plenty of pork chops.

Vegetables, most likely not fake as such, must likely covered in pesticides and fertilizer. Rinse will.

When eating out... well... just hope for the best. Only eat in places where lots of people eat. Never think "Ohh, this place is easy to get a table at"
