Q: How come Chinese are so generous?

I feel Chinese people are so generous especially when it comes to food. Every single day there is at least one colleague sharing whatever they are eating with other colleagues. And I haven't experienced it only at work but also with all my BF's family and even strangers on the street. I am a generous person but not that much...Sometimes when I eat a little snack at work, I kind of feel awkward. Share or not to share?

maybe share with them something, that they may not tasted before? Wink

bigasspanda:

I did, I brought them some things and we shared. But they share everything...Sometimes I have a little snack and feel kind of guilty or selfish eating it all by myself. But most of the times those snacks are all my meal. I wonder if they consider us selfish?!?!?

communal eating is an oriental thing. It's not really sharing in the Western sense.

Communal eating is definitely a Chinese thing, I don't think its selfish to have your own snacks.  I bring my own snacks to work all the time and no one ever has shunned me or bad mouthed me for doing that.
