Q: How to cure cough for an Alaskan Malamute puppy about 2.5 months at home ?
An Alaskan Malamute Puppy about 2.5 months older. Recently since 2 weeks he got cough (similar to Kennel Cough I think). what are the best treatments at home I can give him ?
I have already seen him to Doctor and Doctor gave me 2 medicines + giving him Honey to Drink (a spoon).
His coughing stops for few hours when he eats medicine, but later it again starts.

Actually I found that Honey is good for his cough when there isn't time for med.
so I also give him it.

I have been to Pet Clinic last weekend and check up for him, there is no any issue with his health except cough.
And when I purchased puppy, I made written 1 month guaranty to return if any virus or serious diseases found.

Sorry, I don’t know of a solution, but I wish you the best. I would love to have a dog here, but there are just too many uncertainties.
Well, honey does not cure anything, it's just to ease the pain in the throat 
Typical cough medicine (for humans or other mammals like you mammuth) does not *cure* the cough, it just stop the coughing reflex and it's mixed with painkillers, codeine for instance. So yeah, no surprise, it comes back. People don't like to hear that you can't do much to cure them, and that they should just wait... So the doctor will prescribe something just to make the patient go away. (And pocket a commission)
The cough is likely to be of viral origin, where the only medecine know to work is, well, rest and let the immune system do the job. Air pollution makes the infection more likely by weakening the immune system. Suzhou air pollution is pretty bad since a month, Shanghai is likely to be about the same. If you make your mammuth run a lot in the park a day of heavy pollution (typically, in end of the afternoon), the poor thing surely have a soar throat. Opportunistic viruses can then turn that in cough. The same happen to me after a jogging a smoggy day (I run with a mask now...) So no running for the mammuth, just a walk when the smog is at its lower level, in the morning.

Hmm.. Heard what u said, but it seems something not clear.
Since 2 weeks I didn't take him out bcz of sometimes polluted air and also virus from other pets, I want to make sure his health so first he should get his vaccines and then take him out to play, so have to wait until his cough goes away.
About honey, It's really good for cough.

Has the dog had it's vaccinations????.Your Doc is not very bright giving honey. The main cause of sick or dying puppies is not being vaccinated. There is no home treatment that I know of. Try a different doctor if the dog is very sick. Colds in dogs and cats can be more serious than in people.
I have never seen a cat in China that does not have respiratory virus, always dirty eyes and nose. Vaccinations are for preventing these illnesses.

The Vet said needs to wait until his cough goes and he shows healthy.
we did CDV test which is most dangerous virus spreading in China and it comes negative so it's great. and his blood test also better except he needs HGB % higher.
He looks little better since yesterday evening and he plays well with me.
And I will take him to vet on this weekends again to get medicine & check up.
Medicine works well for him. just asked if more things I can do.

Has the pup had vaccinations? My pups and kittens get 3 combination vaccines about 3 weeks apart. @ 6. 9, 12 weeks

The Doctor said give him vaccination after his coughing stops. But I believe first dose has been given by seller.

Read my first post, your dog needs vaccination for parvo etc, your Vet is an idiot, Is the pup on antibiotics?? Make sure pup had first vaccine, not think it.

Hmm.. I don't see Dr is Idiot. He is better and can speak English also with me.
My Puppy is well now. more active and almost coughing is gone.
Dr said need to wait till this weekend and then he will give Vaccination course, and for the safety of my puppy I never took him outside. but he is fine, My gf helps me together to clean up things, everyday house is cleaned with Dettol.
