Whether you’re looking to marry a Chinese national or another foreigner, the process will start at your home country’s embassy website. Most countries’ sites will offer information about the legal steps of marriage in China including what paperwork you’ll need to bring when you visit the consulate/embassy to get the Marriageability Affidavit. From there, you and your fiancée will need to head to the Chinese Civil Affairs Office with that affidavit, residency permit, passport/ID card, health certificate, 3 pictures of you together, and Family Registration Booklet (for a Chinese national). You’ll go through the “ceremony” and receive flowers and a photo to commemorate the event.
