Is it possible to get criminal check if you are not in UK??

most stuff is done online so as long as you have a credit card to pay the search fee no problem
the only time it gets tricky is if they require fingerprints or dna for some searches but that is for interal government jobs usally

My Beijing Embassy (EU) does that (home country's police record) or anything else connected to my home country. They assist me in all my needs/requirements from Chinese Gov.
I would never expect, I must look for my Criminal record in private. It's my Gov. issue, so Beijing Embassy is my Gov.'s hand in China.
Any other Gov. works the same, and if UK Embassy won't issue Criminal record (that Embassy's A would be ridiculous...), they'll tell OP about the proper procedure. Ignore that!

That's your government mate! Not all countries have the same methods. For the UK you use the police website above to get a standard criminal records check.
There is also an enhanced criminal records check in the UK called a DBS check (used to be called CRB) which anyone who works in the UK with children or vulnerable adults must get. That one checks that people aren't barred from working with these groups due to having sexual offence records. Strange that China doesn't request that one for people who will work with children.
Have a look at ACPO - Association of Chief Police Officers.
They issue certificates for immigration purposes.
I had a full disclosure when I did my teacher training, however it was a few years ago.
For my current job in China I used a more up to date ACPO certificate.
It says "NO TRACE" in big letters for criminal records search and it looks nice and shiney.

Get or renew a passport
The British embassy can’t help with passport enquiries. Contact Her Majesty’s Passport Office if you need help.
If you can’t get a new or replacement passport in time to travel, you may be able to get an emergency travel document.
Get an emergency travel document
You can apply for an emergency travel document (ETD) if you’re abroad and your passport has been lost or stolen, damaged or expired, and you can’t get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.
If you’re due to travel in the next 24 hours, contact us as soon as possible. Call us before making an appointment if you’ve never applied for a British passport before or if you’re applying for a child under the age of 16.
Before you are able to leave China with an ETD you will need to obtain an Exit Visa from your local Public Security Bureau’s (PSB) Entry & Exit Division. This may take up to 10 working days. Consular staff can direct you to the nearest PSB.
Please note that we are unable to issue ETDs if requested for the following reasons:
- you wish to renew your Chinese residence permit – ETDs are for travel purposes only
- your normal passport is with the local PSB to renew your Chinese residence permit – the Chinese authorities will not permit you to hold more than one visa at the same time

What the embassy cannot do for you
Although we try to help British nationals in a wide range of situations, we cannot:
- help you enter a country, for example, if you don’t have a visa or your passport is not valid
- give you legal advice, investigate crimes or carry out searches for missing people, although we can give you details of people who may be able to help you in these cases, such as English-speaking lawyers
- get you better treatment in hospital or prison than is given to local people
- pay any bills or give you money (in very exceptional circumstances we may lend you some money from public funds, which you’ll have to pay back)
- make travel arrangements for you, or find you work or accommodation
- make business arrangements on your behalf

Yeah I agree, I should wait for Brit to answer that.
However, I found Q moot, because I always contact my Embassy, when I need something from my Gov., therefore 'contact Bj UK Embassy' not eChina Board.
Even Bj Pak Embassy got me whole guidance on Tourist visa last summer, despite we don't have Pak representative office in my home country.
