Your talking about the BBB....if you check the website they should have a review. Just look at what others have commented about the business and then go from there.
You can ask to see a copy of their license and make sure that the name on the license matches the name on the account you are sending the money to.
Bank accounts here have to be setup under the same official name as the company. It isn't a fool proof way, but it is the best way you can do easily.
There is no BBB here in China, so don't waste your time with that. And any comments, reviews, etc. that they will provide will most likely be doctored anyway.
Firstly, ask them to email you a copy of their business licence "fuben" (this is not the original large copy but a smaller secondary business licence that has four small squares on it to show the company has passed government annual inspection). You will be able to tell from the number of inspections the company has passed, how long the company has successfully been trading. The company stamp (chop) will have a long number on it which is the company registration number. This can be tracked if necessary.
Secondly, if the value of the commodity is high enough for justification, find a reliable inspection and/or sourcing agent to check the company out. They can usually also check the product against specification before it is shipped to ensure you are getting what you asked for.
Thirdly, if at all possible, make payment by letter of credit (L/C) that is open on sight. The company doing the selling won't be able to get the money unless you receive and are happy with the goods. If the company refuse such payment arrangements on an expensive commodity, that is an immediate red light.
DON'T simply rely on Alibaba Gold Star approved supplier status. That is certainly not fool proof and safe. I would advise you to approach a third party like SGS to check things out. If not, there are plenty of other third party inspection companies like AsiaInspection or Top Inspection that will do the work on a fixed fee basis (often 288 USD per man day).
I am a Chinese and I would like to give you some suggestion important.
1) send a business license is Ok, however, how can you identify it ? at today, PS technology is so good, they can change the information from the license... so it is very poor way to get the answer...
2)Molding ? I have friend in this business as well, perhaps let me know your drawing and everything I can help you talk to clearly, if sucessful, buy me milk and bread... ha ha, just joking...
3) Honestly speaking, if you tell me the name of the factory and tell me the location, I will check for you, good luck to you !!
