Q: How do you tell if someone is gay in China?
The guys here are such flaming metrosexuals....when they offer to buy me a drink I always blow them off.
Guys like that back home are usually gay, but here it seems to be the norm.
I made the mistake tonight of venturing out to the disco without my gf...she is out of town.
Now granted once the girls started drinking with me all was cool again.
So my question is....does "gaydar" even exist in China? What I would consider gay at home is out the freaking window here and as a nice guy I do my best not to offend people. I almost told a guy tonight I am not gay...but 20 minutes later he started dancing with a girl...after asking me to dance before...WTF....why the freaking hell do guys dance with each other here?
Apparently bisexuality is common here... I encountered it once again tonight, a man and a woman sitting in a bar next to me and staring and smiling at me. Then she encouraged him to flirt with me (the exact term, and I was flattered), then asked him if he actually wanted to find a man or a woman, and he just answered "Iunno, both?".
There ARE some flaming homosexuals, but most homosexuals keep a low profile (you know, culture and stuff)
The trained gaydar from US goes haywire here. I thought I could figure out who gays were by looking at them. The instrument is so messed up after living here that I have an american fellow in the chinese class, he is so flamboyant and all other shit, but I still can't pinpoint if he is gay or not.

i can usually tell by body language people meant to mate will have different body language than those who are not . i have yet to be wrong just look and think
ask 3 questions in a specific order.
1. who would you rather spend the day with, taylor swift or justin beiber?
if he answers bieber , then move on to question 2.
2. ask him if he knows the lyrics to any justin beiber songs?
if he can string together more than 3 words then move on to question 3.
3. ask him what is justin beiber's best physical feature? if he answers then he is gay
(not that there's anything wrong with it)
Usually if the boy has a "girly" sounding name, he is gay. Definitely if the name he adopted is a girls name. And, if all else fails, you can kiss him
. If he slugs you, he wasn't gay...
I have my glasses specially coated so they filter out men/ boys. I only get gray images. I think thats what happened, maybe its psychological. But the women I see great. Last night while waiting to cross the mine field road, there were two young girls leaning against a pole, the taller one was hugging the smaller one and stroking the smaller ones hair from her face. I thought they looked gay, but i don't mind such behavior. I don't judge most of what i see, i just accept it. I'm Ok watching women hold each other, but thankfully i don't have to watch the guys do it. eewwww
As a girl, it's a bit easier to tell. For instance, a teacher at this college asked me and my student friend to go to Hangzhou with him and another teacher. At first I thought it was a little creepy, but after getting to know him better, I think he's gay. Some are flamboyant and pretty obvious, but it's even more obvious when they just want to talk with me, they don't flirt at all. It is partly body language: a straight guy will not touch a girl on the arm when joking around (unless it's his girlfriend or a classmate), but a gay guy might. It's probably going to be impossible for you guys to know because it's not something they talk about in public, and they'll probably marry a woman anyway. Here's my advice: if they're gay, don't worry about it. Maybe they will flirt, but all you have to do is say you're not interested; feel flattered and/or laugh it off. Sounds like these instances are mostly found in bars. If they don't directly say anything about liking you, then maybe they aren't interested in you, and they're just being a Chinese guy...?

i touch many women on the arm when joking even if it is a good friend (just friends). but more so i use it to break the physical contact barrier and to gauge her reaction. depending on her reaction and where we are then my hand may next be placed onb her waist or knee testing the waters. maybe this is why i've had so many misunderstandings (slaps)

Keep in mind that you're a foreigner. A lot of the normal rules don't apply to you to begin with.

I get men that come up and talk to me and they usually look really gay to me. I met a guy that showed me around on my last trip. I always wondered about him. This trip I did meet his wife which he said was away previously .I was wrong about him..
