Q: How does China see the world?

In the west we have a habit of affixing certain attributes or characteristics to other nations. For example (don't shoot the messenger on this by the way, i'm just reporting what i've found) the British seem to be widely thought of as a little cold, Americans are thought of by many to be extrovert and a little crazy, Germans orderly, French romantic, Italians fiery, Jews thrifty, etc, etc. So what about in Asia? Do the Chinese see the Vietnamese as maybe, good with money, or Greeks as possessing great wit? What characteristics do the Chinese attribute to other nations?

The only examples I have heard is that the British are very polite and Americans are friendly.

I agree with Tom. Also, I've read that the Chinese see the South Koreans as ethnocentric and very arrogant. Yes!

As an American, I was supposed to be blonde haired, blue eyed, and overly extroverted.  So far I'm 0 for 3.

read an article in one of the australian papers how they see australians:

and as they put it we are "Chinese think we’re “stylish and classy”, but not very helpful."

MissA:

That was a fascinating article, their perception of us is utterly different from our perception of ourselves.

Totally agree. I dont think wearing a pair of thongs and a wife beater singlet with a beer in one hand is classy.

Unfortunately, I think I fit the stereotype that most people think of here when they think American.  But, for some reason everyone expects that I am married and here because my husband's work brought me here, which is definitely not the case...Hmmmm...

The world is like a big village. The villagers have different features and characteristics. Observation, communication and experience may help understand each other. Then, you'll get your own answer years later.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
