Q: how to get degree authentication

I am 43 old Pakistani decent British, I have been applying for English Teaching jobs for over a week now.  My BA is from Pakistan, How would I go about getting my degree authenticated? As I don't have anyone in Pakistan to help me, my whole family live outside Pakistan. Does anyone know what is the actual process to obtain a visa? Plus any suggestion about an institution and location where I can get Halal food easily?

Your BA must be completed in Native English country (UK, USA, Canada, Ozz, New Zealand and S. Africa) to be illegible for Working permit in China (Chinese law) and further Z visa which you'll be most likely required to pick-up in your UK city's Chinese Embassy.

You must exit China and return to your home country for Z visa.

This is the first time I read about Native English speaker (UK passport) with BA from Non-native English country.

Usually is 'Non-native English teacher with BA from Native English country', who is illegible for Working permit in China.

Your case is opposite and I've never heard before.

I'd say 'authentication of your BA' isn't necessary at the moment. You can do it after you complete an interview, because you will get an interview invitation only if School can secure Z visa for you!

About applying for job for a week: 'make your CV ready with all advert's requirements and apply everywhere.

Chinese won't reply if they aren't interested in your CV. Never mind! Keep sending your CV till you won't receive interview invitation'.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your replies. As for the Jobs, I have been offered few jobs but I have not made my decision which to pick yet.

So just to clarify things procedure is that the institute gets my Z visa from China? then I have to provide that here to the embassy who will stamp my passport?

No! You must exit China and apply for Z in Chinese Embassy in your home country.

You cannot get Z visa in China! You might get Z visa in HK Chinese Embassy, because HK has a special status within China, but as I hear that is a rarity these days.

If School told you they can get Z in China, stay away from such School because later in the process they will 'change' that to any other visa but you are legal in China by working only with Z/Residence permit.

Working with all other visas put you in the illegal position in China.

A native speaker from UK or US and other places can use a degree from another country.

Ohh well, I wasn't thinking about that option, but it's most likely true. Native English speaker speak native English despite degree was completed elsewhere.

OP's written Englo sucks thou ....That isn't Native English, IMO!

Check and see, you MIGHT be able to get it done at that Pakistan embassy.   You might be SOL and have to go to Pakistan to get it done.

Also, just like ICNIF said, there's a chance that your degree, because it is from a NNES country, does not qualify you for legal work. Hopefully I'm wrong, but this is the first I've heard of someone with a NES passport having a degree from a NNES country.

Requirements for visa:  authenticated degree.

Authenticated criminal background check.

2 years post graduate work experience.

TEFL/TESL/CELTA/DELTA certificate.

Health check.

As far as institutions/food goes...  china is big, and there are LOTS of institutions. Halal food availability really depends on the city that you pick, so if that's a "must have" for you, then I would suggest picking a city with a substantial Muslim population.

As for getting my degree authenticated by Pakistan embassy is very very difficult. I have already looked into that, they require the degree to be verified from Pakistan and then stamped by the Foreign Affairs before the embassy can attest it. And to get that done I have to pay a fortune as a bribe or know a minister. Plus it could take up to a year.

BuTT ...what's a point of getting authentication of BA if you aren't illegible for Working permit in China 'cause BA is from Non-native country?

Only place you'll get Halal food outside major cities is Muslim run restaurants like Lanzhou Lamian.

In cities with bigger Muslim communities (Chinese & foreign) then you'll have more choice. I'm in Guangzhou and there's a good choice of Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants plus lots of Arabic/North African places that are Halal.

Shining_brow:

What he said.

There seems to be quite a few Lanzhoiu Lanmian places around, so you may be in luck! But, again, depends on what city you go to.

So, if you manage to sort out the authentication business, and you still have those job offers going, then you're going to need to be VERY picky about which city yoiu go to.

(North-west China has a strong Muslim population, but without the wealth. So, many migrate to other parts of China - the richer parts - and obviously take their food with them. They advertise as being Halal....).

First , you can try to ask the Pakistani Embassy ,  for halal food it's pretty available each 2 km around whole country or you can manage to cook by yourself try to buy your food online from taobao , there are many online shops that sell halal food . Food is not a big deal here as Japan in my opinion , it's cheap and available everywhere. You can order fish and seafood which is usually cheap.
