You can extend your L visa (normally) for 30 days at your local PSB. You can then get yourself a 2nd extension, for another 30 days at your local PSB.

After that, you'll need a whole new visa! And that will mean leaving the country.

Note - if "soon" means "in the next few weeks" - go early! The PSB will be closed from about the 9th til 14th, and you'll want to have your passport back before they close... While I have until about the 15th, I'm going to get my extension next week...

From what you state in the question I get the idea that you had an student visa which somehow expired, or you stopped being a student, and PSB gave you a 30 days visa to finish your affairs in China and leave the country, or to enroll at another school and get another student visa.

If so, then extensions are seldom granted.  You most probably will have to go to Hong Kong to apply for a new one, or go back to your country and apply there for a new one, or use a visa agency in China to get it for you, but a friend just used one and paid 6,000 Rmb for the visa, and I am sure visa agencies in your country could get you the same visa for a lot less (between 1200 to 15000 Rmb).

I am from USA, and I use Oasis Visa Agency, and they charge me $50 US dollars for their service, plus visa fee and postage for mailing my passport back.

Thanks Happy - that's why I qualified it with 'normally'.

I'd do a trip back home - except the price of flying back and forth is far more than the expenses (including agent fees) of doing it in HK! $2000HKD, plus flights and hotels, is a lot less than $1500AUD.... even if I have to do it twice (cos I might only get 6 months, not 12)
